2022 Transfer Season

Yeah. If they can't get a suitable replacement for Ebo's production then it's going to be a problem. The position needed to be improved even with Ebo on the roster.
Definitely. Ebo was making some pretty good strides toward development, that's why I was surprised to see her enter the portal. I am really hoping there are some things in the works behind the scene. That five spot is very important to the type of defense Vic plays.

While you never know for sure if your incoming transfers are going to end up being the "impact" transfers you want them to be, I'm keeping my attention focused on Stephanie Soares, Taylor Jones, Kennedy Brown, and Fatou Samb as potential post transfers.

I don't want to sell Samb short, but based solely on her stats at Berkeley, I see her as someone who can add depth at the Center position and come in off the bench. The other 3 players I would think all want to be an instant starter at their new school; so, at most, I'd hope one of them decides Texas is the place for them.

I’m so angry:brickwall: they are definitely a top 10 team with the addition of Soares. What are we doing though. At this point are we contacting players because, the only recruit I’ve seen we had contact with is Fields. Of course I don’t know what’s going on behind the scene but, it seems we’re losing out on some big needs

Agreed. Which is why the center position is the only position that I'm worried about interms of trying to get someone to transfer in. As the team currently stands, which could obviously change any second now with the portal, the other production that the team lost is easier to replace.

The center position in wbb is like the O-line position in college football. When you have a really good one, they can be the most important on the court. But just like O-linemen, the good ones are really hard to find and get. Especially centers with any semblance of a back to the basket game because the lay-up is still important in wbb.

And a center that can block/alter shots, which is very important in a system such as Vic's that like to pressure the basketball. I wish we had an Imani currently on the team.

With the addition of Soares I would have to think Iowa State is now the frontrunner in the B12, at least until we can sign a center of our own.

She is a huge addition for an already very experienced and deep team.

Well, we saw what ISU looks like when Ashley Joens is not on the floor. They basically have 2 other players in Ryan and Donarski who can score in double figures. Not sure who else they signed for 2022.

I wanted Soares for several reasons. My main concern was how she'd do going from NAIA to NCAA D-1.

Honestly, I was interested in Soares but always had the gut feeling that our school may have been too "worldly" for her.

Yeah. This one is very disappointing and IMO makes Iowa State the favorite in the conference and a final four caliber team. She gives them exactly the thing they were missing.

We don't even know definitively if we were even heavily pursuing Soares... if at all.

If we weren't, that would be a problem.
Agreed... her size and skills alone are worthy of it.

Edit: She may not have had any interest in us. I've had my doubts all along since first seeing that portal announcement listing Clarissa Davis as her contact person.

I couldn't even find anything on social media about her even visiting anywhere. Now she's already committed? And her Mom is a legacy. You'd think we'd at least get a visit. Have to wonder if Texas showed any interest at all and, if not, why not? Soares' brother Tim went from the same NAIA school to playing internationally and is apparently doing quite well. I guess we'll have to see what Vic and the staff come up with for post players. We sure seem lost right now while everyone else is quickly filling out their rosters.

I'm worried about PG depth, as well. If Rori gets ill or needs to miss any game(s) for other reasons, we haven other true PG on the roster. Yes, Matharu can step in, but that affects her ability at scoring. And, then we have no one serviceable to step in for Matharu at SG.

She's actually already "signed" since ISU issued an official statement about her.

I agree and I think that's going to be one of the more difficult needs for us to fill. It's obvious who's going to be the point guard for the next 3 years and the number of minutes that are going to be played. I think our best option would be to continue to develop Hunter as a combo guard and get her fully capable of handling the point when needed. I'm not really sure but I think Kobe might also have the ball handling and passing skills needed to help out.

Thought she played her high school ball in San Antonio. Would love for her to land at Texas, but you can't discount her following Joni Taylor to Texas A&M.

As most have mentioned, getting a PG willing to be a backup will be difficult. If Kyndall remains with the team she would be the likely backup and I think can do an adequate job. If she decides to transfer out then the backup PG would be right there with Center as most important needs for me.
