2022 Governor races

Well. I voted for Abbott today. You guys convinced me he is just good enough to vote for. I think the libertarian candidate was better overall but the difference wasn't enough this time to overcome the other considerations.

Believe me. I didn't feel great about voting for Abbott either. It sorta felt like wearing non-antiperspirant deodorant. It's better than nothing, but you still kinda smell.

I felt really good voting for RR ISD school board though.

The current people are getting even worse. They basically have covered up then covered for physical abuse of a teaching against a special needs kid.

Who could have guessed that a domestic abuser with a permanent restraining against him would allow abuse in his schools? Watch the video. Seriously.

And look at these people offering her the taxpayers money - not to compensate her and her son for what happened but to shut her up and cover their asses. Disgusting.

I voted for Libertarians almost as much as for Democrats this morning. And I don't care for Libertarians that much, but the Dems and Republicans were so bad. And no, I don't feel like I threw my votes away.

I like to think that if I had been in Munich in 1938 I would not have voted for either of the two parties led by von Papen and that Hitler guy but rather for some odd party like the Nudists or Anti-vivisectionists.

When I was a young man I got to pick among John Connally and Lloyd Bentsen and John Tower and the like. Now I get Beto and Greg and that POS Lt. Gov and the attorney general. The democratic candidate for AG is actually worse than the current jerkoff. Pathetic.

Can we apologize to the Brits and go back to a monarchy? Too late I guess

Well, at least the AG is fighting for the rights of parents to disagree with trans trying to groom children to mutilate themselves.

Abbott's comments on oil and ESG starting at 4:53 justify my vote. Probably the most important issue in the world actually.

There are basically three types of R governors:

Leaders like DeSantis, or Youngkin of VA, who fight to advance conservatives issues.

Followers like Abbott, or Kemp of GA, or DeWine of OH, who'll sign conservative bills the Legislature passes, and will (finally) come around to using the power of his office for conservative causes.

Worthless turncoats like Hogan from MD or Baker from MA, who do nothing in office to advance conservative ideas or build up the conservative infrastructure of other elected R's in that state, but who are always good for an interview on leftist media, saying that actual GOP leaders are meanies who are doing it all wrong.

The first batch should be highly supported. The second are OK if nothing better comes along in the primary. For the third there's no point in voting for them, for you'll get leftist policy, maybe a bit less but still leftist, while stabbing other Republicans in the back.

Let's not glorify the old days too much - back then you could vote for someone besides LBJ if you wanted to, but you're counted vote would end up for him just the same. Tower was a drunk, and A Richards' was a worthless leftist who's only accomplishment was turning off the lights of the Texas Democrat party, of which I thank her for.

wait a minute re Tower!! So he was a drunk, big deal. So was Churchill. And von Bismarck could knock down a gallon or two as well. Tower was a lech too but again, so what? At least he didn't have to pay off the girls to get them to shut up.

As for Ann Richards, her only accomplishment as governor aside from keeping that demented Aggie from getting the job and ending Jim Mattox's career was building so many prisons we nearly ran out of occupants. This is not to be sneered at. Before her election they were paroling out guys with life sentences in a couple of years* and afterwards the nice accused citizens were getting to serve much longer portions. Guess what? The crime rate dropped like a sack of anvils. Ann Richards was an obnoxious old lefty but she did get that right.

*I once prosecuted a five time loser, got him a life sentence and two years later got a call from the DAs office asking if I remembered the guy: they needed someone to identify him if they went to trial. He was out and nailed on a receiving stolen property indictment. True story.

she did get that right.

Horse ****. What she did was come within a hair of bankrupting the state by violating regulations. You tell me why the government refused the criminal referral while she got a home loan she couldn't qualify for 25% of. This is one of the major reasons that when our administration was being infiltrated by terrorist, DC would not let the Austin offices know about the sting much less trust our University administration.

FWIW, The Guttenberg Bible will give you cold chills in that dark room with one light shining on it.

I am confused as hell, Sabre. What in the world does the presentation of the Gutenberg Bible have to do with Ann Richards and a terrorism plot in the UT administration?

Nothing to do with Richards, just an inside message to Hui because I thought he would understand it. Suffice it to say that it played a major role in protecting our University and its students.
