2022-2023 NCAA Tournament The Big Dance

And Baylor is down 4-15 more than half way through the first quarter. Started out 0-12. Big 12 looking bad! 4-18 as i type. Big 12 looking good in the WNIT. OOPS 4-20 with 2:16 in the quarter. I better finish this post before it gets worse.

When someone had pointed out a couple of weeks ago that the Big 12 conference schedule was a "bloodbath", I pointed out that we had a lot of mediocre teams due to just about everyone being out one good starter, and not having much bench depth. Looks like WVU, OSU, and Iowa State are out; ISU wasn't going to beat Tennessee in Knoxville next round anyway. Joens ended her career with her team finishing worse in the post-season than last season. I said Baylor was not a good team even though they beat us at home; looks like they started out very slow against Alabama.

Hoping we do much better tonight. Only us and fellow defectee Oklahoma still alive.

The Longhorns MUST score the ball. SCORE! SCORE! SCORE! This is the only thing I'm nervous about with our team. We can't start slow. We can't try and find some offense. We must SCORE!!!

You're right, but shooting/ scoring the ball is this teams weakness. I just don't see them all of a sudden becoming a good scoring team.

Baylor woke up. 47-46 ALA. If they shut Davis down, play defense, run and continue to score they should be ok.

I really wanted Baylor out in the first round!
So did I, but the consolation is they get to play UConn in Storrs just like we did. I get sick of Baylor running from top competition every year with their non-conference schedule. We played at UConn without Rori and still made it a a close game.
Let's see how they fare.o_O

I think Baylor will do well considering the fact that due to injury, it's probably one of the weakest UConn teams in a while.

Kamie’s Wazzu Team upset by 12-seed FGCU.
I had a feeling WSU would be the team who got hot and won their conference tourney unexpectedly, and then got overseeded in the NCAA tourney and upset in the first round by a lower seed. Happens every year. Iowa State kind of the same; winning the Big 12 tourney was their Super Bowl and they had nothing left today.

Yes, Baylor-Uconn will be one of the most interesting games in the tournament. I, for one, am really hoping Baylor upsets them. Since the rotten apple left Baylor, I don't have any particular animosity toward Baylor. I kind of like Nicki Collen. UConn, on the other hand -- it is always fun to see them get upset. It happens once in awhile now, which it didn't for many years. Geno is doubtless a great coach, but to me has been one of the more obnoxious people in WBB for many years.

Can’t root for Baylor and that obnoxious fan base ever even though I kinda have a soft spot for Collen myself. Hopefully she’ll escape Waco soon. I’ll be fine if UCONN shellacks them which is what I predict will happen. I respect UCONN for how they have persevered this season and maintained a really decent showing. Plus I really like Lou Lopez-Senechal ever since we played her in the tournament last year and boy could we have used her shooting out of the portal this year.

I don’t hold the level of disdain for UCONN that some do although there is some on my part. I respect Geno WAY more than Mulkey as a human being and he’s obviously a great coach as is she (unfortunately).

I respect your perspective on UConn but I can’t root for Baylor because they are one of our biggest recruiting rivals. Beating UConn would be a marquee win for BU.

As @HornView said, I hope Baylor is shellacked. They don’t need any good mojo to sell to recruits.

I haven't been able to go to enough games to have the experience of dealing with Baylor fans. I don't concede that KM is a great coach. Well, it depends on how you define coaching. If it is judge by having a lot of winners, it's hard to deny the great label. She is obviously a good recruiter. Once you get that going and your team wins, it becomes a loop, the good players keep coming. I hope we are getting to that point. As far as X's and O's go, I don't remember many moments when she did things that struck me as particularly brilliant. Adequate for sure, common sense things to do with great players.

I always wondered how she got Nylissa Smith. Did we even go for her? We don't get the real inside scoop on the recruiting very often. Wonder what she said and did to get Angel Reese.

Great point Luther. My very first concern about any team’s success is recruiting as it pertains to Texas and to me Baylor is a bigger concern currently. LSU is becoming another. UCONN is basically going to get theirs. I’m hoping Vic gets us to that point and I think it’s possible.

We did recruit Smith. She and her parents attended at least 3 games. At the time, I think Smith was impressed with the Baylor bigs, Brown and Cox. During those seasons, Baylor had our number and dominated us in the W-L column. Plus we had Charli Collier and Sedona Prince committed to us or already on the roster (I can’t recall the timing).

Everybody is right about not wanting Baylor to get recruiting mojo. That's the last thing we need, so I will appreciate that if UConn wins.
