2021 Recruiting - Football

There were no stars, but that year, Mayes was the most sought after OL.

I would say Chris Gilbert was everyone's #1 RB, although Aggies will tell you is was Larry Stegent, who was a great guy but only top 5 in Brazos County.

Chris was not very big, and seemed much faster on the football field than on the track (same was true o Cotton Speyer). I don't believe Chris ever broke 9.9 in the hundred. He was so wirey that no one ever got a solid shot at him.

Bulaich & Montgomery were both much larger, coming in around 225-235. Both ran the hundred in 9.8, although there were reports of 9.7/9.6 with the wind.

Side note: LaMarque was 3A and Spring Branch was 4A, so Chris and Norm really only ran against each other a few times (Beaumont Royal Purple Relays, Lamar Redskin Relays at Charlie Dyer, possibly the Baytown Relays, and there was one down in Pasadena IIRC) .

You are a babbling brook of historical data

cheated and still could not win....

I attended his son's first home game at the Drum. I convinced my friend that his first name was Tally. He played well, so she had plenty chances to stand and yell "Yay Tally Wacker." For most of the first half. We got some looks. But I could tell from the looks on their faces that some them were actually questioning whether that was indeed his nickname. And my friend was built like a young Ann Margaret (thats a historical reference for Sabre) so some of the looks we got were very extended. We may have been drinking, possibly doing other things too. Yay Tally.

You sure it wasn’t Young Tally Wacker?

Makuba -- we are still battling Clemson and ou here
(short video embedded if you click it)

Unless OU has picked back up on their communication with him, I don't think they're much of a factor at this point. Inititally they looked like the favorite and then some time ago I believe he told TFB that he hadn't been hearing much at all from them. Not long after that he didn't include them in his Top 12. Looks to be a Clemson/Texas battle at this time with LSU 3rd.

BTW, glad to have you back Joe

By coincidence, just yesterday I was wondering what we were going to do about the TE position and had even read something saying there were several in Colorado this class. And today, we offered Gunnar Helm from Englewood, CO
...

Gunnar is supposed to be in Austin this weekend.
(And, for some reason, I will say his name out loud with a German accent)

Suchomel thinks we have a good shot at Eric Cade. I dont know if he is correct about all of this but here it is anyway

”I talked to Erick Cade last night ... this feels like one that's not getting enough attention. He told me he's basically down to Texas, Bama, LSU, Arizona State and Ohio State. ... If I'm guessing right now, I'd probably put Bama as the team to beat (assuming it has room) but he had some good things to say about Texas and Herb Hand. I’m skeptical that he’ll be a take for Bama (unless they miss on Brocks), LSU, or Ohio State ”

They didnt put helpful circles around him but he's the biggest OL, thus easy to spot

So Roach seems to imply the Brocks are silents to Bama, although he did not say this exactly. Still, his most recent post doesnt seem very encouraging

On the other hand, word is that the bothers have re-entered our recruit/player group chat. And so has OL Bryce Foster. We will have to see if that ends up meaning anything or not.

Brockermeyers commit tomorrow- Can't wait to see Roach have to eat a big fat lemon. ...

There are some people out there who claim to be insiders who say they have been UT all along. But something like this happens every season -- "my son is in school with him" or "I sit next to him in some class." If they are wrong, they just disappear. But yeah, Roach and lemons sound good

:puke: :confused2: :puke: I'm freaking out man!! I know we have other good talent and some position holes but this seems to be THE defining commitment for Texas this off-season. Land the Brocks and we can call the recruiting class a win. Lose them and it will always be a disappointment and an indictment on TH's recruiting in-state.

We have one committed offensive lineman.

How would everyone feel if the Brocks committed to Texas and said it was because Coach Herman was so supportive of #BLM?

I ain’t holding my breath on either of those issues

It would be a signal that the paradigm shift has occurred. Which is fine by me except for two things:

1) Keep the Eyes of Texas
2) No contributions to political activists

Otherwise, if it's a concerted effort to recognize what's important to people along with getting rid of Confederate references then I'd say it's on to the show...

I just don't like the "or else" stuff. They could have accomplished all of this behind closed doors and allowed EVERYONE to roll it out together.

Maybe the players wanted all the credit.

So it sounds like they may have rejoined that chat to try and pull someone with them to Bama. If this is true (and they are trying to pull Milroe to Bama with them), then we need to give some serious thought to ex-communicating the parents

As to Foster, supposedly his mom says "anywhere but Texas." She is already ex-communicated so we dont have as much recourse there

Meanwhile, it’s been a year since we’ve had an OL commitment. I admit that 6 or 8 months ago, I not only thought we were getting the Brocks but getting Byrd too. And maybe Foster.

Considering their older brother is already on campus, and earned a scholarship as a walk on, losing out on the twins would be a worse scenario than losing out on Studdard, losing out on the Johnson bros. etc. It would certainly be a defining moment for TH, and may have a major impact on recruiting going forward.

Should we pull that schollie? Why should these parents benefit? Let it go to a family with a legitimate need

Another possible OT alternate - film arguably looks a little better than Cade
Jack Leyrer (6'6 275 ) from Highland Park

Both Brockermeyer brothers just committed to Alabama.

I have always considered the elite athletes (college and pro) to be mercenaries. I've had some push back on that. I think we see it in the one and done's. We also see it in the protests over the Eyes of Texas. They don't bleed orange. They negotiate and play the game and you may get them. You may not.

Now we have these two. It's a free world. But there is no state school. There's only the hiring of tools so that the fan's can get their virtual sexual release out of the vicarious pleasure derived from the exploits of strangers.

And when we see the cheating along with the fan's arrogant defense of the methods employed, then we know that there is a pathological emotional impairment on a mass scale.

But I think we all know that. We see it all the time.

Like hoarding toilet paper. Or needing to pretend a politician cares about you.

Or winning seven national championships and acting as if it is a sign that your state and school (which you probably didn't even attend) is so superior that your appreciation of it means you are too.
