I second this. For football, it’s the first 20, 10, or even 5 yards that count the most. Anything beyond that is mostly just good for deep patterns (and covering deep patterns), returning kicks, and breakaway runs. Hall of fame RB Marcus Allen ran a 4.7 plus 40 yard dash. And he wasn’t that big.They are RBs not Olympic hopefuls. How many Jamaal Charles' have we seen since Jamaal Charles? (or before, for that matter?)
They both have a good initial burst, but neither apparently has elite long speed
I’m not against sprinters with great 100m times, but it’s usually of marginal relevance on the field. Of course, the guys with great 100m times often also have great 40 times and a quick burst off the line...
