2021 NCAA tournament

WHAT A RIDE! Coaching can only take you so far. At the upper levels talent and size can’t be ignored. SC was just so long and big and skilled, we were just outmatched. Not out-hearted though. I have no scoop on any transfer that might help. Losing your senior point guard and junior center means you simply have to get some experience in next year. Fortunately the transfer portal allows that. Need more size at all positions next year. Heard at point guard would solve that. Hayes and Jackson from MState would also help immensely. 3-4 total transfers are necessary and I think happens. There are LOTS of players wanting to play for Schaefer now after seeing the Elite 8 run. I’m excited about the next week or two in recruiting. Even more excited for move-in day in June for new players. And even more excited for next season. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES to the 2020-2021 Lady Longhorns.

I really wish Lambert would return. She played the best I have seen all season in this tournament. She was getting comfortable and attacking the basket and her defense was amazing.

I too wish Lambert would come back. But I think 6 years is enough to ask. At some point a player has to get the rest of her life stated. Lambert will be an outstanding coach.

Chevalier?
Ashley will have to put in a ton of work in the offseason to get a nod over Harmon. That is not at all a knock on AC, more so emphasizing that Rori is THAT talented. I look for AC to play the same role that she played this year, limited but effective as that change of pace/junkyard dog kinda role. Look for JAT and Celeste to handle more on the ball duties next year as well, especially if we get the wing xfers that we're expecting

Which has me thinking if that is something she would even be interested in. I look for some of the ladies to see the coaching change down 35 as an opportunity to get more immediate playing time

I'm still hoping for a grad/upperclassman transfer PG to come join the squad and provide experience and maturity at the position.[/QUO
What about Chevalier? Are we afraid she will transfer?

Not sure we were that outmatched. I saw us miss a lot of shots that were makeable. Granted, a lot fell short (fatigue, as others have mentioned). We had a chance in this game.

Chevalier was good as a freshman. Vic mentioned many times that she played like a coaches daughter. Next year she'll have another year of experience. Don't count her out.

They were altered or flat out blocked most of the time. Vic turned a good team into a really, really good team, but tonight we ran into a superior team.

SC pretty much plays with 11 players. We claim to have 7 but we really played this tournament with 6. Those girls had to just be exhausted. I was exhausted just driving to the games and getting to my seats! And let’s not forget, Lauren Ebo was not even expecting to play this season. Her transfer waiver had been denied. She wasn’t given the green light until late December, I think.

I’m very proud of this group. It’s been a very long time since the Horns have over achieved. We usually do the opposite.

Absolute best of luck to Charli and Kyra. Thank you for everything you did to get us here.

Vic was impressive in the press conference. He speaks with such strength and conviction. I would be impressed by him if I were a recruit. Kyra was wonderful in the press conference also, very poised and articulate. She is a gem. She is definitely leaving. She made that clear in the presser. Vic said he is excited about the 5 that are coming in, so, unless something happens, I suppose those are new team members. I have never seen Harmon, but I believe Ashley will give her a run for her money. What I expect at this point is for them both to get a lot of playing at the point. Ashley is a tough, smart, quick guard. If she can add more points, that will be even better. I liked what Carolyn Peck said about her defensive skills in one game, "She will aggravate you to death."

It’s been fun, y’all. I enjoy the back amd forth each season. Even you doom
and gloomers. Texas is out so I am out. But I’ll be rooting for Stanford to win it all. Or SC. Or Arizona. Anyone but UConn.

See you next year.

I bet Mulkey says a bunch of stupid next year too.

The sun is shining come on get happy...

Agree, I'm rooting for Tara to win and maybe ride off into the sunset. Great coach and class act.

Unfortunately those players with the accuracy of a 12th century cannon came back to possess our team last night. I'm still very proud of what they accomplished.

I would love to see Kyra back, but the way she was waving at the crowd at the end of the game seemed like it was so long and goodbye forever.

Forty-two minutes of nothing but PURE CLASS from Kyra and Coach Vic. What a switch from some of the others we've seen. Surely future players across America and beyond would want to be associated with this! :hookem:

Sorry to see Texas exited but it was inevitable. Cant believe the number of missed layups I saw. Really cant understand that but South Carolina is a much better team than we were. Dont think that statement will be true next year. Great run and proud of the character. Its 8am and OU still sucks!!

Not counting her out, more so going on the history of what championship guards are made of. I don’t think there is any doubt what’s behind her breastplate (to steal a phrase), but at that size you’ve got to be lighting quick and able to get by anyone and/or shoot the ball lights out. As it stands right now she does neither thus my original point of her having to transform her game in the off-season.

I somewhat disagree. Ashley is already lightening quick and can get by people pretty well. Her defense is outstanding. Yes, I would like more points from her, but this year I think she was putting a higher priority on moving the ball around and running the offense when she was in. I expect her to get better every year. I can't wait to see Rory and all that she can apparently do.

This team overachieved and laid the groundwork for a very bright future. Tough loss but it doesn't remotely overshadow an incredible run.:hookem:

Thanks for the link and you said it, pure class from start to finish. Both Kyra and Vic gave me teary eyed moments and it had nothing to do with sadness.
Kyra is one special young lady that has a bright future in whatever she pursues in life, but I suspect she will be a great coach and I would not be surprised to see her on Vic’s staff at some point.
Vic is a rare gem that is the perfect fit for Texas and this program. The ultimate in hardworking, humility and class.
Not only do the best players want to play for him, but I think the same can be said of his assistants and staff. We will lose some of those at some point (I’m hoping it’s stable for at least a couple years) and he will be able to reload with the best just like he does with players because it’s clear he’s special and provides great opportunities.
It’s nice to feel this content at the end of a season that wasn’t a championship, but even nicer to think about what the future holds for this program. You ain’t seen nothing yet!

I was just thinking mail b Kyra as GA next season but then she said she wants to keep playing. Guess she will go pro.

My two favorite quotes from Coach Vic's post game press conference:

"We told them, 'what you're feeling right now', there's some tears in that locker room, 'embrace it; use it as fuel.' It's not a good feeling. This is what we do. This is Texas. And We'll be back. We'll be back, and back, and back, and back..."

"...I'm extremely proud of this team. I'm thankful to have the opportunity to coach them. I'm fired up and excited for our future because we're coming. And I think everyone knows it."

South Carolina had the perfect game plan of disruption and transition scoring. Some days the shots do not fall for any one on the floor. It is not often but it happened last night. We were within 7 and I thought that was the moment when we could get back in the game and within minutes it was double digits.

Hadn't thought about this point, but, yes, I cannot think of a Baylor player involved with the sport in a supportive, promotional way. Several (Griner, Cox) are in the W and some probably are playing overseas, but you don't hear much about BU alums that I can recall.

"I can give you a long list of former players from various programs who have gone on to become great ambassadors for the sport, role models for young women, broadcasters, coaches, etc. Funny - not a single former player from Kim’s Baylor program comes to mind."

Vic is already on record about how he feels about Baylor fans and the program they represent. She is the head of that program.

Kim gets what she dishes out which is why she is covered in ***t most of the time. From harassing players on opposing teams to suggesting that people who were upset by the Baylor rape scandals should be punched in the face... Mulkey is trash. She has the means to rise above her upbringing but she chooses to remain small-minded and ignorant.

I happened to hear ESPN talk radio Tuesday afternoon - Bart and Scott or somebody - who blasted KM for her comments about suspending covid tests. He called her "stupid" on the air and ranted a bit about how could a good coach be irresponsible enough to endorse putting people at risk? She obviously has no clue about how her comments are perceived - nothing is more important than The Game. Well, a lot of people (about half a million and counting) missed a game, a family event or just living their lives thanks to covid. And Baylor fans wonder why she isn't respected or revered like Pat ...

One last post about Mulkey and then I’ll stop. My apologies in advance. for the length of this post. If you are tired of the Mulkey bashing, scroll on by.

Earlier in this thread I posted a video of Kim verbally s**t-talking to our players while they were on the court in Waco. It was the final minute of a game that Baylor was winning by 20 points. A coach, the adult, the head of the program trash talked to young women on the opposing team and then proceeds to do it again as they did the congratulations line at the end of the game. She actually grabbed our player by the back of the neck to make sure she got her final
insults in. Our player pulls away disgusted.

A year or so later, Baylor (the private Christian school) is trying to recover from a horrendous sexual assault scandal and cover-up and Mulkey tells people if anyone says anything bad about how Baylor handled that scandal, well you should just punch that person in the face.

Baylor's Mulkey Tired Of Hearing Sex Assault Allegations, Wants Critics Knocked 'Right In The Face'

Arguably her best and most famous player, Brittany Griner reported that she was open about her sexuality during the recruiting process and Mulkey said it wouldn’t be a problem. Then once Griner arrived on campus Mulkey told her that it was in fact a problem and she needed to stay in the
closet.

Earlier this season Mulkey contracted COVID, said it was not good and was disappointed that the NCAA was putting money before the health and safety of students and staff. Tonight she told the press that the NCAA should stop COVID testing and just let the kids play. Because I guess now getting players and coaches sick is ok?

Baylor's Mulkey: 'Dump' COVID testing for Final 4

When asked about the foul at the end of the game she said she had photographic evidence. Who gives a crap, Kim. You’re the adult representing the sport. Your answer should be “Sometimes the calls don’t go your way but we all are playing the same game and sometimes it’s not perfect. That’s sports.”

Mulkey is a good coach but a bad leader. She might be a nice enough person for all I know, but she is a terrible role model. Rather than growing and enriching herself from all the success she’s had, she wallows in poor sportsmanship and sour grapes. You can act, say or do anything you want as long as you win. We’ve all been to the games. We’ve seen her antics. We’ve experienced the Baylor fans. As the saying goes, s**t rolls down hill. She’s at the top of that hill. They have about as much class as they have full sets of teeth.

I can give you a long list of former players from various programs who have gone on to become great ambassadors for the sport, role models for young women, broadcasters, coaches, etc. Funny - not a single former player from Kim’s Baylor program comes to mind.

As a parent, I would never entrust my child’s education and well being with that woman. And I have no doubt If she were to read this, she would say that somebody needs to punch me in the face for writing it.

Her remarkable track record in the scorebooks is impressive. Her remarkable lack of integrity and decency far outweighs those wins.

BEST. ASSESSMENT. OF. THE. SEA. HAG. EVER....

Lambert has the option to return...and Chevalier will only get better...our season doesn't have to depend on the 2 frosh...
Lambert has already been enrolled in the “So You Want to Coach” Program....so...but Chevalier...she is gonna do great and is a Sophomore!!

Maybe you have forgotten how good Brooke McCarty was? Chevalier has that potential, yes she does!!

Normally I agree with all of that but I gotta admit at this point I'm routing for Paige Bueckers. I think she is one of the most humble, genuine and talented young players I've seen in a long time.

agreed, I really like her because she is very humble and does not feed into the media hype. Many dislike her simply because of the media and she can't help that.
