2020 Recruiting - WBB

Well JJ...…..I like your optimism and you make some really good points. Brown being gone will definitely make it easier to guard. 6'-7" was a tough matchup. I am not beating the drums but I am not sure we do match up with Baylor well outside of Cox and DeGrate per your thought. NaLyssa Smith and Queen Egbo are long athletic, fast posts/forwards that we simply don't have. And Didi Richards at 6-1" is a long, athletic forward starter that is the best of the three. It will be interesting to see if DeGrate starts or Smith or Egbo. I do think the Horns can play competitively with Baylor. I certainly would be disappointed if that didn't happen. Now I am focusing on the next game...USF. NO More Baylor Comments from me...….for awhile.

I have no idea why we keep talking about Baylor and how we match up against them in the 2020 Recruiting thread. Let's move on to what this thread is really for.

Not my Baylor team and not happy about them having a better class than us!!! I want Texas to succeed. Don't have to be a fan to appreciate what Baylor has done. You, on the other hand, don't have the objectivity or class to do the same. That's not my problem!!! I told you exactly what was going to happen in recruiting and it has now come to fruition. NOW.....don't you have some unremarkable hobby like wood chopping or knitting to keep you busy???
Spare us.

You couldn't wait to come onto this thread (which you never contribute to with anything at all, by the way) and basically tell some posters (not sure who) "I told you so!"

Well I was responding to what someone else said so thata that and im sure 2020 recruiting is over for Texas.
Shay holle
Ashley chevalier
Elyssa coleman
Precious johnson
Katie benzan

I don't care about Baylor one way or the other. Andrews may be transferring after a year or two, the way things go these days. Our lack of depth in the post is a big worry, but we'll see what happens. I'm pumped that we got Chevalier and Katie Benzan.

Texas is getting a 6-2 post in elyssa coleman and a 6-6 post in precious johnson & terry nooner is a great coach so I know he will turn both of those post next season into a force to be reckoned with

Karen better hope so. Now that ISU and even OSU are recruiting as well as Texas if these players don't get coached up it will be the end for Karen. We know they'll get coached up at other B12 schools. Aggy is also in a lot better position than Texas right now.

I hope so! Since these were players (out of the blue) announcing their commitment and no fancy rankings, I hope it's a case of Karen and Terry finding blue collar players who will grow, play well, and not transfer. Yeah, not transfer seems to be the key here.

Yeah with those type of players I really dont pay attention to rankings because jada underwood was not ranked in the top 100 in her class & look at the impact she has made for Texas. Also alot of good players get looked over because they dont play for a top level AAU team and dont get the exposure other players get. So it's really just about are you willing to put in the work to do whats best for the team and jada is the definition of that. So as long as they come in and do what they are supposed to do then they will have no problem succeeding at Texas

Although I admire Jada's effort and attitude if most of your starters have that type of skill set Texas won't even be competing for B12 championships, much less NC's. I'm afraid that's what Texas is becoming. In the past we had players like Brianna Taylor, Jordan Hosey and Brady Sanders that hustled their butts off, but we also had skilled offensive players that could shoot and score. Those players were the exception, but could be the rule after so many misses the last 2 years in recruiting.

Texas needs to be recruiting players like Ariel and Brooke that had great talent, but also worked their butts off. Other than Celeste, who will bring real talent to this team? Last years class wasn't even top 20, and this class won't be either unless some of them are severely under rated.

Definitely agree recruiting has gone down very much over the last 2 years. I don't know what happened because Texas used to always be in the mix for top recruits. After charli collier and sedona prince Texas has not had any top players. Terry nooner is an amazing coach and a great recruiter. He really couldn't do anything about the 2020 class but hopefully he works his magic and Texas starts fresh for 2021. I do know for a fact there are some top recruits for 2023 right here in austin. Gizelle maul a freshman at cedar park is going to be in the top 10 in her class so hopefully Texas is already pursuing her but we will see. I just know I don't wanna see a season like I saw last season.

IMO, Celeste is a top player. She is a McD AA, more highly ranked than Brooke was, and has been regularly selected ahead of higher ranked players for Olympic teams.

While I think next year's incoming class may not contain a Celeste/Ariel/Charli/Sug/Joyner, I'm not sure that a single year is a trend. Future recruiting will always turn on current performance, so let's hope this year's team can succeed despite the obvious depth problems.

The Dallas Morning News had its pre-season girls basketball review today. It was a Baylor recruit love fest. Andrews and Gusters. Of the players highlighted, no Texas recruits really mentioned. N’Lyssa Smith of DeSoto is the only one I am aware that might be recruited. She is a sophomore and there was an article on the freshman and sophomores making up the Desoto team. T Herron is another sophomore from DeSoto that has a Texas offer but no mention of Texas on either. They focused on a lot of girls. Guess they did mention Bradley of Bishop Lynch as a Texas commitment but didn’t include her in any top players to watch. It’s been a long time since I don’t really have any Texas recruits to go watch. It seems like Texas is being shut-out on top recruits in Metroplex right now. Hope Aston is recruiting Houston or Cen-Tex.

Which is a huge problem. Terry nooner is supposed to be one of the best recruiters out there based on his previous track record. As I have said he really had no control over the 2020 class since he came so late but hopefully he works his magic on the 2021 class and brings in some top talent

We've had top talent. Karen Aston was at one time a great recruiter and has had several top 5 recruiting classes, at one time having roughly 10 McDonald's All Americans on the same roster. BUT....and this a big BUT....in order to maintain that recruiting you must produce big results... I spoke to this very subject earlier this year and warned that our recruiting was going to fall off. We made the Elite 8 one year, but other than that, have been middle of the pack nationally. IMO this is a pivotal year for us in recruiting because if we don't have a good year, you will see recruiting falter even more. Those are the facts......

Vype ranked their Top 25 in the Houston area regardless of class. Elyssa Coleman came in at #3 with Precious Johnson at #16. Vype actually does a pretty good job covering girls BB in the Houston area so they do have some credibility (IMO).

Just an FYI but the fall basketball signing period opens up tomorrow and recruits can sign LOIs until next Wednesday or they have to wait until April 15, 2020.

I agree with DFW_Horn, surprised given the name DFW that he was aware of Vype Houston, which does a great job of covering high school athletics including girls basketball.

The magazine is published and distributed freely and publicly in the Houston area, often found at grocery store stands and sporting good stores like Academy (and previously Sports Authority). Hope Texas gets Rori Harmon and Kyndall Hunter of Cypress Creek HS next year.

I stumbled across their content online a few years ago and now look for it - did not know they actually produced a physical magazine, just assumed they were a digital provider. VYPE DFW does very little with girls basketball that I can find. VYPE CenTex seems to be adding a bit more GBB content, have to wait and see if it's just a blip.
