2020 Recruiting - Football

He had a scholarship to UTSA but everything went bad before he ever made it to campus. If he had, his eligibility would have expired by now.
So how does one get into the portal if one is not on any current roster? Seems that person is just out there like any potential walk-on.

What does Mimms (ou) and Smith-Njigba (tOSU) have in common? The easy answer is they are distant cousins and boyhood friends. The obvious answer - both are upper-level players from North Texas where Texas has little presence.

Another WR miss by Coach Meh. He is from Rockwall

Ok so he jumps and catches the ball and extends his right foot into the end zone. How is that the catch of the year? I mean it is a good touchdown but was not a particularly hard catch to make.

here's a new idea. how's it going to affect recruiting if the dead period is extended thru 4/15/21 due to the covid pandemic? UM or anyone else can't contact any players. How will Texas reel in these players? Isn't the official signing day in February? Is it now illegal to contact thru two signing periods?

I don't really understand this.
If a recruit comes to the campus he simply walks around with a mask tries to stay more than 6 ft apart so what's the big deal. I go to places I wear a mask and I try to stay 6 ft apart if I can. I don't get close up to people. So what's the big deal

Most players will sign in a week and a half.

Apparently it will be open season for anyone to transfer with no sit out after January. Any D1 athlete will have the ability to transfer one time without penalty.

My first thought is: "that's crazy, teams will be stacking"
But then I thought, with a new coach coming in this could be really good for Texas.
I think it's more likely to be good for Texas rather than bad. Players will be happy to play for UM, a fresh start.
And it wouldn't be crazy-all out stacking cause players will be leary of going to a team with too much talent at their position because they will want to play.
Like covid, this is weird.

Wipes out a QB room though in a hurry....

There's only a limited amount of scholarships each year, even if this coming year it's at least 110. Texas may lose players but then someone else at another school is feeling left out, and then comes to Texas....

Gerry Hamilton bullish on the 2000 class -

Bijan Robinson and Alfred Collins are the best freshmen duo since the 2001 class: Bijan is going to be a star, and if Texas can win enough games an All-American and potential seat at a Heisman Trophy ceremony. Alfred Collins will be a top 20 pick with the ability to be a top 5 level pick. Two true freshmen with that talent level and NFL draft ability has been seen in the same class in Austin since Cedric Benson and Derrick Johnson signed in the 2001 class. Both went on to be first round picks, and that is where Robinson and Collins should be in two years.

He also thinks Troy Omeire has a shot at being a third first round pick from this class.
Plus --

Jake Majors and Andrej Karic look like multi-year starters. Vernon Broughton looks like a interior pass rusher with size, Jaylan Ford is a player, Kitan Crawford and Kelvontay Dixon look like future players with speed, Jerrin Thompson will be a solid at safety. Jahdae Barron has potential. Jaden Hullaby has potential. Sawyer Goram-Welch has ability. Hudson Card’s ability/future is loved inside the building in Austin.

The wildcard in the class has now become Prince Dorbah. I would say that the health of Troy Omeire and the development of Dorbah make them the two most important players in the program this off-season. Dorbah is at the biggest position of need when looking at next season - EDGE rusher. His ceiling is really high, and he needs to start ascending towards it this spring. Bottom line, the 2020 class will have multiple first round picks, a number of multi-year starters and the potential to be one that produces more than a handful of NFL Draft picks. If Hudson Card and Prince Dorbah come through, this class will be a great one.

Edge rusher, that is our biggest need with the loss of Ossai. After thrashing Colo that’s IMO, is our biggest need on the DL.
