2020 Recruiting - Football

ps - that does look like some low level compt
Even good players look low level against Bijan because he is on a different level.

In one of the videos I posted in his recruitment thread, Lanthum remarks to Bijan "It looks so easy." Bijan approached 500 yds. In 3 qtrs. in that game against Desert Edge.

From Mike Roach --

“There are a few other prospects that Texas is involved for right now. I can’t get into those names at this time, but there are irons in the fire behind the scenes. The Texas staff is at a place where they can be a bit choosier when it comes to filling out this class.”

Eaton visited ou too, and he may be wobbling -- their depth chart at db is more "open"
You know, these kids have to recognize the real bottom line is life and how being well educated can benefit them in the long run after football. If they want short term exposure, there are a lot of places where they can get it. If they want to maximize their on field skills, then they have to learn to swim with the big fish while receiving a great education.

By the way, one of those committed recruits is Mookie Cooper with whom Texas is still speaking. Ringo and NJS are still considering. Who knows about Flowe? The fit here is great for him and his brother.

Here is what Justin Wells says about us and Ringo - FWIW

KELEE RINGO
Texas sent the cavalry out to Saguaro (Scottsdale, AZ) on Friday night to check out one of the nation's top athletes. Coach Herman, coach Washington, and coach Beck were in attendance .... Sources close to the recruitment tell me Ringo was happy to see the burnt orange contingent on the sidelines. The five-star stays in regular contact with CB coach Jason Washington and maintains he's still open in his pursuit. Two teams stand out of his 34 offers - Georgia and Texas.

In Georgia, he sees a program on the rise playing in the physical SEC. He likes the defensive staff and his mother might don some Bulldogs gear.

In Texas, he sees a program that's a few players away from making a national title run. He sees a big family and a big opportunity to face some of the best offenses in that country in the Big 12.

No matter the odds, Texas is all in here. Ringo will take an OV to Austin, I’d guess after Big12 play around late November, early December. I believe UT is starting to feel some slight confidence here. And for good reason. Georgia is still the ahead of the pack, but the Horns are catching up, one phone call at a time.

Last time I saw his mom she was shopping for UT memorabilia. I think he might realize that his most challenging coverages will be in the Big 12 and that his best learning experience will also be at Texas. No doubt he could start here his freshman year if he learns The Playbook.

I think Joe fan could have ran for those touchdowns.

I think I will reserve judgement on just how good Bijan is when he goes through fall practice here at Texas.
It might take him awhile to get acclimated to college football.

Seemed to do okay Rivals 100 challenge:

“Robinson isn’t the highest-rated running back on this list, but he’s the only one to beat a five-star running back (
Kendall Milton) for an MVP award and earn an invitation to the Five-Star Challenge. His consistent wins during the one-on-one period at the Los Angeles camp caught everybody’s attention, but the way he won each rep was equally as impressive. Robinson’s soft hands, effortless route running, and burst in the open field made him dominate the competition and earn the top spot on this list.”

Bigger concern is that ESPN profile shows a 4.77 40. That can’t be right, can it?

I can’t believe the 4.77 either but...

I don’t fully get the obsession with 40 yard speed. Yes, it’s an indicator, but it can also be very misleading. For a wide receiver intended to be a deep threat, I get it. For a corner, safety or perhaps a LB, chasing a WR or RB, I get it.

Straight line speed can be a big deal. But for an RB, I have to wonder. I’d take a guy with quickness and cutting ability over a screaming 40 time every time. How fast can he go 10 yards? How fast can he hit the hole? So if a DB catches a 4.6 RB 45 yards down the field, I can live with that. I just think the difference between a 4.3 and a 4.6 at that position — if the quickness and vision is there, is pretty much inconsequential.

How fast was D’Onta Foreman? I remember when the OU safety ran him down about 60 yards down the field. No one seemed to care about his speed...

You tell me. Also is reputed to be a poor pass receiver by the same experts.

About 55 seconds in to 1:55. I dare you not to laugh from 1:20 onwards.

When you watch Robinson's film, you have to understand it's terrible competition, but the fact is everything you see him do in game film, he also did to the best of the best in the camps.

He is not a fluke, he is about as legit as there is out there. When I watch him play he is so fluid it reminds me of watching Marcus Allen play for the Raiders. He seems to just glide when he runs. Vince was the same way.

He is strictly a 3 year player and we will be lucky to call him a Longhorn.

Marcus Allen is a good comparison as Marcus just was always gliding. I think Bijan has a little more speed and his cuts are just unmatchable.

Ryan Watts de-commited from ou -- might explain their push for Eaton -- Watts might end up at tOSU

Confirmed that he did get a committable offer from us
Sometimes they claim one from us and it might not always be exactly accurate
I would think that would be embarrassing to claim an offer that didn't actually exist. You would be shown to be a fool very soon!

To be fair, I think in certain circumstances the offers are contingent on a number of factors. Just like an athlete can shop around with multiple offers, a school can shop around with contingent offers.

that's surprising to offer this late. you'd think we'd be cherry picking highly rated recruits. you know, like the kodiak eating only the organs late in the season. lol

Despite the IMG attachment, this player is originally from Texas. I've also read that he is Bear Alexander’s brother. Bear is a high-ranked 2022.

I don't have any information to back this up, but I think Josh White is off the board and we should just move on. We stand a better chance of going after an OOS guy than him.
White will be a tough pull but we supposed to be working on the mom. Last night, we had two coaches there to see him

LB Josh White still seems locked into LSU but we are committed to pursuing him to the end, perhaps beyond. And LSU already has White and one other ILB committed for 2 slots. However, they have also began to work on a backup plan at that position. Perhaps a sign they are worried our undying love for White
