2020 Presidential Debate #1 Thread

So they don't wear out?
No, they get warped (due to sun), chipped, etc. To keep them light, they don’t reinforce them, etc. More like a surfboard. The more durable parts are the foundation, base, generator.

Not to mention the amount of bald eagles those things kill is completely depressing. So ironic that the anti-gun crowd kills more birds than the pro-gun-crowd

Megyn is usually a very good reporter, she for unknown reasons tried to stake out this anti-Trump position from the right during the 2016 election. I guess it worked out for her financially as she parley that into a big pay day job at what, MSDNC?

But predicable, first non-party line issue there and she got canned, but still made off with $$$.

Trump was good last night, cool, calm, collected, a Boss. He's been like that many times - all his State of the Union speeches have been excellent, the Rushmore speech, etc. If the media wasn't full on communist, Trump would be polling at 60 percent, which is why I give him a lot of the benefit of the doubt. He always has to draw an inside straight, while any Democrat gets a 7 and the media calls that a full house.

Is this a surrender flag or is she trolling for a new job?

I think she is trying to suck up to the conservative side of the country again, since the liberals dumped her.

Pence, like Chenney, is the President you want when the asteroid is coming to earth. Cool, calm, and collected.

As others said, he used to be a talk radio host, so debating and speaking on the fly is second nature to him.

For Kelly, yeah, it was an obvious parley to be the left's favorite reporter on Fox News, with the follow on hire to MSDNC at a big payday. Then the predicable ousting as well. Worked out well for her if all she wanted was money. If she wanted air time, different story.

And thenDD you have haters like Husker trying to make it seem that Trump let in 400k from China instead of the actual 40k
Husker did not make that number up. He read it on a hater site and believed it until I asked for proof

This is a beauty of a thread. It started with a lengthy cut and paste meme post from a conservative purporting to KNOW what Democrats believe. Now Horn6721 is soooooo prescient to know what I believe and what sites I consume. It's not lost on me that this is the same user that took 4 years on this site to learn how to use the carriage return and is still trying to learn proper punctuation. It's lunacy and a sharp reminder just how this site is on a trajectory to mirror the outcome of the movie Idiocracy.

Listen more, talk less if you truly care about understanding other perspectives. Stop trying to talk FOR them. Too much fighting with caricatures of the opponent rather than listening to the perspective right in front of them.

This site is so predictable. Horn6721 will feign a response like he really wants to learn more before he declares victory and answers his own disingenuous question. Garmel with throw a laughing emoji on this post. Sangre and maybe one other will throw the poo emoji on it. Wash, rinse and repeat.

Yes, but then he corrected himself, so maybe on those rare occasions when that happens we should all accept the apology and move on to something else.

I for one give the Husker credit for acknowledging his error.

I heard a pundit describe Pence as the political equivalent of 1% milk. But, yes, if he runs next time, he'd make a great President.

Dude's plan for Trump apparently is for him to go on TV and say "I have sinned against ya, please let me do better next time". Sounds as stupid as the proposer of it.

You'd think it would be apparent, but never take advice from your enemy. Yet leftist go on TV and say "This is what the Republicans should do". Why would anyone listen to that. Might as well be the Cleveland Brown's Fan Club giving advice to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
HEY NOW!!!! As a HUGE Browns fan I take offense to that!!

(here comes the "Awwww I'm sorry" posts lol

Watching the debate now and am about halfway through. Trump is winning this match - much better performance than before. Biden isn't doing terribly, but he's letting Trump get away with a lot.

The problem is that Biden's comments are based on fairy tales not reality.

Also the moderator was essentially Biden's handler. If she was impartial Biden would have looked even worse.

I'm sure she's a Democrat, but she is much better than Wallace was.

Debate goes downhill in last 20 minutes (both sides).

Did he say, "how many of you are rolling around in bed worried . . . about getting sick?"

I can only speak for myself, but when I'm "rolling around in bed," healthcare is the last thing on my mind.

So I wrapped this thing up, and it's pretty clear that Biden was totally out of gas by the end of the night. He basically let Trump run wild on him. He let Trump frame himself as doing more for black American than any President except "MAYBE" Abraham Lincoln. He let himself be framed as supporting the banning of fracking and ending the oil industry. He let his record on racial issues be defined by the 1994 crime bill and let it be contrasted with the criminal justice reform done under Trump. In other words, he let Trump define himself as the bigger advocate for blacks and Hispanics and certainly not as the hateful white supremacist that they need him to be.

Forget whether or not those are fair characterizations. If you're on the Right, then they are. If you're on the Left, then they aren't. Either way, Biden could have put up a far stronger fight against them than he did. Early on, he did, but by the end, his resistance was nominal and weak. Hillary Clinton and most of Biden's competitors in the primary would have gone apeshit over that stuff.

What are the consequences? Well, the oil and fracking angle definitely takes Texas off the table, assuming it ever was on the table. However, it also gives Trump a major opportunity in Pennsylvania. I wouldn't say that it hands the state to him, but it makes things much more complicated there. He created a commercial for Trump to run relentlessly. Furthermore, will black voters turn out big for Biden if he's framed as weaker on civil rights than Trump is? If they don't, then Michigan, Wisconsin, as well as Pennsylvania get a lot dicier for him.

I think the question left on the table for Biden was whether, if he becomes president, he would allow Hunter (or anyone else in his family) to continue too pursue lucrative "consulting" contracts with foreign governments or companies with close ties to foreign governments.

Bit of a trap question, but should have been asked
By Trump if not the mod

Could still be asked before the election. And would be if we had an honest media

Biden held it together for an hour, but then he must have needed a nap 'cause he just collapsed. How can a man in his condition expect to take on a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week job? Maybe the most stressful job in the world.

I think the Dems are using Biden because he's a lot more palatable to the general public than Harris or Warren or Bernie. Once they seize control of the WH, they expect him to fade away like the good soldier he is and let Thomas Perez and the DNC run the show through puppets like Harris.

And Trump has carried that momentum to his rallies. Joe on the other hand is in his basement with cookies and milk.

I don't agree. She was more subtle but that is it.

I think subtlety has some value. She didn't openly fight with him, didn't Candy Crowley-style selectively "fact check" him, and largely let him make his points. She also didn't pull the white supremacy crap. Those factors all by themselves make her fairer than Wallace was. Of course, I'll readily admit that she had an easier job because Trump generally acted like an adult rather than like a 4 year old who was just told his mom wasn't buying him candy at the grocery store. If he had acted like he did at the first debate, perhaps she would have been more openly hostile.
