2019 Softball

Wow, what a wild game. At least Mike White has the common sense to replace a wonky SS with another almost-as-wonky SS.

It's gotta be out of the question that Elish will pitch Saturday. I would assume a combo of Bollinger and O'Leary.

Bolinger gets the start. She walked three to load the bases in the first, but got out of the inning. Horns go quietly in the first two at bats so its 0-0 in the bottom of the second inning.

Brooke gives up a line drive double to start the second inning then mishandles a bunt. With runners on the corners she gives up another hit to right field. 1-0 Alabama and Brooke gets pulled. Now O'Leary is in pitching.

Freaking errors!!! Hathaway drops an easy fly out which would have been the third out to end the third inning. Next batter walks and the next two hit home runs. 6-1 Bama. O'Leary is pulled from the game.

The routine plays are just as critical as the the clutch plays.

A blooper hit that should have been called an error. Rhodes at 3rd tried to catch an over her head (her back was to the ball) pop up but she should have given way for Slack to catch. Ball dropped to the ground and another run scores. 7-1 Bama after the 4th inning.

Body language and facial expressions say everything. Stick a fork in 'em.

[In the voice of Miracle Max, waving goodbye to Alabama as they head the WCWS] "Good Luck storming the castle (OU)!"

Great season Ladies, it didnt end the way we wanted but I couldnt be more proud of Texas Softball. Texas Strong! Texas Fight!!

Totally agree with Coach White that Softball needs instant replay. I sure think the umps missed some calls! The boys have it of course but not the girls.

Time to wrap up the 2019 season. I wrote a letter to Mike White and the other coaches. I'm posting it as a screenshot so that the formatting doesn't get all jumbled from a cut-and-paste.

Hey, Mike White responded to my email! Here's one sentence I feel comfortable copying and showing:

We are happy that you decided to support us again this year. Remember to spread the word and fill the stands so I can push for a much needed upgrade to the stadium for the fans.

Of course, you have to recall he left Oregon right after they finished upgrading "The Jane".

Glad he responded to you and pointed out the need to support the team. However, if you look at the history of stadium/pool upgrades at Texas butts in seats usually doesn't do the trick. Donor funding is where the initial upgrade money usually is found. The first step, however, is White proposing the upgrades and reasons for the upgrades to CdC. Hopefully, that has been done, and CdC is already on the case.

More than anything, IMO, that field needs shade over the seats like DFF.
100% agree with you there......except....I was told by some seat neighbors that when they attended the Town Hall meeting, some asked about putting up shades at McCombs. Jody Conradt took that answer. She said that her working group visited with other sites and were told "Don't put a top on your stadium. It'll cause your field to get cold"

Ha-ha-ha-ha. Yeah, if you're above the state of Oklahoma. I couldn't believe Jody took that seriously and re-counted it back to UT fans.

For the love of Mike, put up those nylon shades they put up on kids' playgrounds these days!

This podcast, where they interviewed Mike White, was the first mention I'd heard that Mike wanted a bigger stadium. It's a good listen:

On Second Thought Ep 138: Texas softball coach Mike White on NCAA tourney, Texas baseball on the brink | Hookem.com

And yeah, I want seats (rather than benches). I want some friggin shade!

Not worthy of a new thread, so I'll post it here. I'd been on the watch to see who was leaving the Horns via the transfer portal and Softball Today was kind enough to put up a "who so far" database:
NCAA Softball Division I Transfer Tracker

I went into it looking to see who in the Big 12 is affected. Iowa State and Kansas have no transfers, yet

Not surprised at Chloe (Adriana) Romero as she didn't pitch all year. And Hoelker only came in when we were way ahead and used as a pinch runner. I guess she could see the logjam at the infield and outfield and decided to try elsewhere.

A few of the names from other teams, make me raise my eyebrows: Mariah Lopez and Kiana Workman. The rest aren't familiar to me.
