2018 Senate (& House)

In response to the Brazile admissions, is The Bern indirectly calling for the end of (or reduced power) of Superdelegates?

"Donna Brazile’s recent book makes it abundantly clear how important it is to bring fundamental reforms to the Democratic Party. The party cannot remain an institution largely dominated by the wealthy and inside-the-Beltway consultants. It must open its doors and welcome into its ranks millions of working people and young people who desperately want to be involved in determining the future of our nation."

Do you agree with this position a Rep in Alabama has taken?
"While some Republicans at the national level spoke out against Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore on Thursday in the wake of allegations that he initiated sexual contact with a 14-year-old when he was in his 30s, Republicans from his own state seemed to have a different view — with one citing Jesus’ parents to defend Moore’s alleged behavior.

“Take Joseph and Mary. Mary was a teenager and Joseph was an adult carpenter. They became parents of Jesus,” Alabama state auditor Jim Ziegler told the Washington Examiner on Thursday."

Or this?
"Bibb County Republican Chairman Jerry Pow told the Toronto Star's Daniel Dale that he would vote for Moore, the GOP candidate in the Alabama Senate race, regardless of the allegations rather than vote for Democratic candidate Doug Jones, in an exchange that Dale posted on Twitter.

"I would vote for Judge Moore because I wouldn't want to vote for Doug," Pow said. "I'm not saying I support what he did."

And I restate my position stated earlier. I think this is a Republican plot intended to generate a write-in campaign for Trump's man, Strange.

Interesting timing on the 14 year old Moore accuser coming forward. The incident was almost 40 years ago and she comes forward now, a month before the election? Smells fishy (no pun intended).
I find it a little creepy, but is it really relevant today even if true? He should claim PTSD, thus excusing his actions.

A serial possible pedophile as a Senator is not relevant? He was an Assistant DA who, it seems, groomed a 14 year old? It is unsurprising that this came out recently. Have you been oblivious to the f'n wave of sexual harrassment and worse stories that have come out since the Wienstien revelations? It's like there's a disruption in the force that has loosened old wounds in some of these victims. Apparently, this was common knowledge in Bama for years and the Washington Post picked up on it and tracked down the women.

PS: Anthony Weiner is currently serving a 21 month sentence for sexting a teenager.

Moore will win, book it.

It does come down to how the people of Alabama see it
And I have been reading quite a few statements like this one from them. It's all anecdotal but I havent seen any follow up polling yet.

“Roy Moore was not my pick and I thought about voting Democrat. But the way McCain and Romney have come out against Moore, I'm going to vote Moore just to piss them off”

There is history here - easy enough to undo it. Personally, I like his idea if for no other reason than its re-opens the possibility for chaotic Dem Conventions. Throw in the Antifa and we might have Chicago '68 on steroids

it's always been weird to me when communists quote the Bible
What is up with that?

Of course he'll win. We elected a President who 16 women had accused of sexual misconduct which he denied. Then a tape leaked that had him admitting sexual misconduct. Thank the dark lord that Wikileaks released those Podesta emails 45 minutes later. :|

Trump made a mistake on Strange. He let McConnell talk him into that. I think he regretted it later. He ignored his instincts to try and curry favor with the Senate. He got swamped.

Moore was a flawed candidate even before this. Nonetheless, on policy issues, he took the correct position more often than Strange. One example of this that I am certain hurt Strange in Alabama was him wobbling on immigration and the DACA dispute (which hit during the primary).

Come on Bubba. You voted for Bill Clinton too
Nope. My first was for GHWB, then Perot twice. I honestly don't remember who I voted for in 2000 but I do remember taking taking solace in the voting "booth" in realizing my vote in Oklahoma meant nothing. I voted for W. in 2004.

.... then Perot twice. .....

OMG, my brother from another mother!
I did same. Once. It taught me a tough lesson. My dumb vote begat Bill Clinton (who won the presidency with less than 43% of the popular vote). And it made Janet Reno my boss! It's one reason I hammer the Never Trumpers so hard now.

There is a 3rd possibility you are not considering. This could be all media driven. Indeed, there have been some allegations of media folks offering money to women if they will say Moore harassed them. Now, if your original point was that the media and the Dem Party are synonymous, then I will concede back to you and your binary world.

Fake News! Democrats get away with everything, and never get punished.

Bill Clinton was impeached for molesting women and lying under oath about it.
Then the NYT and WAPO both endorsed bringing him back to the White House.
(1) Should the same system of rules apply to Moore? Why or why not?

We were all told, back in the day, that we should not believe Bill Clinton's accusers
Now we are told we should believe Roy Moore's (just like we were told to believe Donald Trump's purported accusers)
(2) Do such vacillating rules (what I call situational ethics) never bother you?

So you consider Fox News synonymous with the Democratic Party?

Similar allegations involving even more money were made during the 2016 election. Kind of interesting what it takes to bribe someone to try and take down a presidential candidate vs. what it takes to bribe someone to take down a Sen candidate

So you consider Fox News synonymous with the Democratic Party?

Shep Smith yes
et ux. Megyn Kelly yes
And while the Murdochs might not be Dems, they are certainly anti-Trump

So now mine. Does the media paying people to say these sort of things bother you at all?

You couldn't find a more credible source than gotnews.com? That site is owned by Chuck Johnson whose wikipedia entry starts off as such:

Charles Carlisle "Chuck" Johnson (born October 22, 1986)[1] is the owner of the websites GotNews.com and WeSearchr.com. He has written two books.[2][self-published source] Johnson is frequently described as an internet troll.[3][4][5][6] He periodically makes false and unsubstantiated claims.[7] Johnson is part of the alt-right movement in the United States.

"gotnews.com"?? really?? is that the same as Breitbart?

This is why some people don’t take you seriously. You passed false information in the very first sentence. First, it’s not pedo if post-puberty. We had this discussion before on this board and how that term is grossly misapplied. Second, only one person accused Moore of sexual conduct (legally speaking) - maybe true maybe not. If true, definitely disqualifying as it was illegal on top of being gross. The others vouched their relationships weren’t sexual. Which is a more accurate representation of Moore? Third, how can it be serial if it hasn’t been repeated in the past 38 years? Finally, in that part of Alabama, I bet it wasn’t unusual for a 30 year old to date an 18 year old. The fact he was 32 and the girls were 14-18 is creepy and will be disqualifying for many voters. Outside of the possible illegal behavior, others may weigh the info differently than you and ask what parts are relevant today. Finally, you mentioned Weiner. Maybe you can see the differences between the two cases, such as the weight of evidence that is available today regarding the illegal behavior, how recent the behavior occurred, etc. In my mind, a suitable response would have been: “Moore’s past behavior, if true, is disqualifying and if one accuser is to be believed, illegal in regards to sexual misconduct with a youth. I cannot in good conscience support Moore for senator.” Instead we got a riotous screed from you that was more inaccurate than accurate.
