2018 Roster

I've said before that I'm far from an expert, but it doesn't seem as though either of them is NFL ready.

I read that as more of #90 wanting to transfer, not go to the NFL. Boyd to the NFL maybe as a 3rd day kind of guy, but leaving early for a 3rd day pick is beyond risky. It's like an audition for the CFL. Or Arena Leagues. It's what high schoolers do who can't go to JUCO because they refuse to finish required courses. It's like Myck Kabongo declaring for the NBA Draft.

Eric Nahlin and Justin Wells think there is a chance Reggie Hemphill-Mapps transfers.
He had 36 receptions for 400 yads this season

Mapps worked his way into getting playing time.... I think the kid has incredible talent more upside - he will get more snaps in 2018. Is the "chance" he might transfer due to his relationship with a coach(es) or is it something off the field?

Not certain, and it may not happen at all. His dad died when he was in high school. So he might just want to be closer to home. We will see.

All this transfer stuff and lack of stud recruits on DL and OL are creeping me out and big buzz kills on my next year happy dance.

Of our players thinking of leaving for the NFL, the College Advisory recommended every single on of them, except Connor Williams, return to college

Getting Charles Omenihu to return would definitely help. As would getting Chris Nelson back. If Nelson is going to leave, he would probably have to do it as a grad transfer which means he would have to complete the Spring Semester which gives our coaches quite a bit of time to try and talk him out of leaving.

IT asked one of our coaches (didnt say which one) who would start at LT in the bowl game with Williams not playing and if Sam Cosmi were not taking a RS.
The answer was Cosmi.
Which sounds good for Cosmi.
But not so good for everyone who has been playing in 2017.

2018 Secondary
looks pretty good right now, even with the losses of Deshon ("my guy") Elliott and Holton Hill. It now sounds as if Kris Boyd will return.
Safety: PJ Locke (who did not have a good year at nickel) to safety, playing the Brandon Jones position. Maybe Chris Brown too who was drawing praise before an injury......

Word from bowl practices is that PJ Locke is already looking better at the Jones safety position than Jones did. This is effectively an audition for him to see if he can handle this spot next year

DB Josh Thompson will under go surgery to repair a torn MCL tomorrow. He hurt it during practice for the USC game. He played all of 2017 season injured. He is supposed to be ready for Spring ball.

A snippet on attrition from IT --

In recent weeks players discussing leaving have been much less vocal. There's been some things stated out of frustration but as of right now it seems much of that is dying down. It'll be interesting to see who doesn't show up for the Spring semester. I've heard of a few players who were basically out the door have decided to return. We'll know much more about that in the coming week or two but it looks like the last month went well for repairing the collective team psyche. I still anticipate a player or two leaving but it's not nearly as bad as it was.

They cite Omenihu as an example of a player coaxed to return

Along these same lines, OB thinks Toneil Carter is no longer a transfer candidate. They say Carter was unhappy for quite a while about Strong. And made a reference about Chris Warren possibly having some influence there as well.

Is that a troll or really an admin? “He will get the four court press from the staff wants the dead period ends.”
“Four court press” is pretty dumb but I could see the person not knowing the saying. But “wants” instead of “once” is just embarrassing.
Not hard to fathom when one remembers it is a sheep molesting aggy writing the post. Actually amazing he can put that many words together.

Draft analyst Dion Caputi says Chas Omenihu will return for his senior season.
Nahlin gives him the business for it

Omenihu made the official announcement today
He will be back for 2018. Which should be a good thing for us.

If you look at the defensive depth chart (i.e., only one LB to be excited about (Johnson)) then it makes sense that we might be running some different alignments next season. Like perhaps some version of a 4-1-6. Omeihu's return will allow them to experiment with something like this, and would be a great opportunity for him to improve his draft standing.

4-1-6 is an interesting idea, but I am not sure that it would work in the Big XII. One guy in the middle is a lot to ask unless you know for certain the offense is going to pass. The corners/safeties on the 6 would have to cover to much room to hold a run to under 4 yards. sand aggy would have a filed day with that alignment. However I agree, Johnson would be the only one of the bunch that could execute it.

Wasn't Toneil Carter a Herman recruit?...Why would he be upset about Strong?
