2014 Non-conference schedule?

Just to be clear, WE didnt schedule them the conference scheduled them. This was the only regional matchup with a potential "national draw" that wasnt already on the books. Baylor and Tenn & UK are already under contract for Home and Home series. So in order to put together the best game possible without undoing what is already on the books.

I'm sort of floored we have no one in our athletics department that can lay down the law on where the Big 12/SEC Challenge should be played. Arkansas and Oklahoma??? You have two Texas teams in it. OU and Arkansas fans will travel to Dallas. The fact it isn't in Dallas is beyond stupid.

It's meant as a preface to both leagues conference tournaments. The SEC tournament will be in Arkansas and the B12 tournament in Dallas. Sort of like what we did a few years ago when we played UCONN in San Antonio the year they hosted the final four

Just my opinion:

- The Big 12 conference didn't force Texas and OU to participate in this challenge. Unlike in men's hoops challenges, the entire conference isn't participating in a set of games with an agreed-upon television setup. This is an idea from one of the head coaches, and set up as a regional event. I'm guessing it was Gary Blair.

- This challenge is better than any of Texas' non-conference home games other than Tennessee game (which is an automatic on our schedule every year unless the Lady Vols want out someday). And, it's our only game on a neutral court since we aren't playing in any holiday tournament this season.

- Texas already plays 2 games in OK every year. But, in 2015, playing in the OKC arena where the conference tournament will be held is a plus. Still, that's 3 games in OK, plus the conference tourney games.

- I'm still very disappointed in the non-conference home schedule. As I said, the Tennessee game has been a recurring matchup every season. So, to not be able to lure another Top 25 team to play in Austin is a failure (for the fans, and recruits who want to come watch).

Mooo I would typically be along the same brain wave as you, but the fact that the challenge is being held at the same site as the conf tournaments indicates that it involved an upper level coordination beyond just one HC's idea.

I still think the schedule is going to wind up in the top 10-15 range when its all said and done because w/ BU, OK St., WVU, OU? Thats another 6-8 games vs top 25 opponents. Our conference is much stronger than the likes of UConn and Louisville etc. Thats why theres no real need for us to push too hard early on

I like the schedule, a blend of top, mid and low teams. It allows for growth, learning each other, the coaches to see how different combos work before the meat grinder of Big 12 play begins.

The main complain I have is that there is only Tenn as a headliner. I wish that another top 15 team was also scheduled. Two a year would be nice. There are four on the schedule but only one at home.

One of our opponents, UCLA, has released their non-conference schedule; very impressive:

The Link

Perhaps UCLA is expecting big things as you don't arrange such an ambitious schedule if you don't anticipate winning more than you lose . . .

now that's an OOC schedule.

That is indeed likely going to be the toughest schedule in the country. I didn't realize they were returning so many quality players from injury. They will be the PAC-12 favorites and a real national contender. I originally thought they would struggle because that's what usually happens when you ask freshman to carry the bulk of the load, but I'm seeing now that will not be the case. We sure will have our work cut out for us when we travel to Westwood.

IMO facing Stanford, Tennessee, UCLA and A&M makes out OOC schedule comparable to that of the Bruins. UCLA put together a tough pre-conference slate last year also, facing ND, UNC, Nebraska and OU. Their SOS was 12th, just behind the Horns at #11. Sagarin ranked our schedule as the 7th toughest, and he had the Bruins at 8th. A third RPI list had our SOS at 13th and UCLA 16th. I expect both program's schedules to be ranked near the top again this year. A lot depends on how other teams perform during the season, but going in both have tough slates ahead of them.
