2011 class outlook (update post Jr Day 1)

At 1st glance it seems we have gotten the best DTs (Jackson) in the state and 2 of the top DBs (Scott and Evans) in the state so far.

2 top flight WR pick ups in Shipley and Onyegbule.

2 OT projects that we won't hear about for 2-3 years but could end up being very good down the road. Those guys just need to come in, redshirt, learn, work out, and be ready for UT football in 2012 and beyond. The other OL Hutchins could play earlier at OG or OC.

Not a bad haul so far. There are 8 guys there that I think any team in the BIg 12 would want right now. We'll see how the evaluations come back on the other 5 as the camps and year moves forward.

I've been hearing since last year that Brown likes okie a lot...any word if we've been successful at turning him away from the dark side? As an aside, I think adding Bergeron and McFarland is going to tremendously upgrade our running attack in a couple of years, no matter who the featured back is.

williams and griffin off the board. 2 previous UT leans, or so we thought

Colt McVince-
What ground do we need to make up on with Edmund? I would be surprised if we took 3 LBs again this year after 3 last year.

Also, I see Greg Daniels as a redshirt who will be like 2 DEs this year - I only see 1 coming - but I could be wrong.

EGD... for some reason, while we were watching chris jones last year, our staff wasn't drooling over the guy with over 180 tackles in the year on the same team. we've since sent coaches to the school to watch him, though it doesn't seem like the automatic lock that you might have thought. ou will be a player. agree that we may not take 3... but we took chet moss. surely he can't be #1 or #2 on our board, if we're taking 2 (no disrespect to moss, but there is wallace and edmond in the state). i also think randle is a player, and should be ahead of moss.

daniels may end up a dt. we are stacked at de, so we may take 1. i think it'll be reed personally. hughes may not be out of the picture though, as more info has come out of the jr day visit.

Colt, I rarely second guess the coaches at recruiting, but I've been a little concerned that we didn't lock up Hughes last weekend. I don't subscribe to the services, but what have you heard about Hughes coming out of the first Junior Day? Send me an email if it can't be discussed openly.

i heard that ketch was on the radio the other day and said something about a misunderstanding with the whole hughes offer. not saying that he does have an offer, but perhaps a conditional offer, or an if you wait long enough you'll get an offer.

i like hughes.. though it's hard to figure out the whole situation currently. we don't need that many DE's, but you got to go after a guy like Rasco. Reed is a stud, but then could end up a DT, where we've already offered Anderson and Russel, in addition to Jackson. then there's the whole lb spin down possibility, particularly with someone like Wallace. obviously the coaches have the philosophy, and know a heck of a lot more than us, but it sure seems we've limited our options with so many early offers to some that might have easily committed later.

I don't have any inside info, but just a hunch that we don't hit on either of the two targeted DE's this year. Hughes isn't a must-have, but if he's still interested, might be our best prospect at that position in this class.

awesome pickup with edmunds, which i think shrinks the window considerably with wallace. we'll see how serious the staff are about wallace and vaughters when thompson comes in for the upcoming jr. day. we're not going to take 4 LBs, unless one is designated as a buck DE (possibly edmunds, though i would prefer to see wallace there). the way barnett, metoyer, and wallace are buddy buddy, i think all 3 are sooners.

with 15 in, i think we end with:
1 RB (brown or bust)
2 OL (2 of westerman, grenalea, and hegarty)
1 WR
1 DE (would hope for 2 to not lose one of Reed or Rasco.. or for that matter Hughes)
1 DT (though 2 offers out now)
1 LB (Wallace or Thompson)
2 DB

would give us 24, more than i thought initially.

I'm thinking Brown, Reed, Anderson, Diggs, Thompson, and Haggerty. 21 Blackjack - instant winner, I think Westerman holds out and eventually goes SC. Turner would be a great pickup but I'm not holding out hope for getting a stud out from under ou again. Rasco looks LSU bound unless Miles screws it up....
