*****UPDATED 2/25/10***********
filling up fast.. 15 down, 7-8 to go?

QB (1): Ash is committed. We could take Brewer as a greyshirt, but are otherwise done.

RB (1 or 2): Brown and Green have been offered. We're in good shape with Brown, okay shape with Green. I think we get Brown eventually.

FB (1): Bergeron is committed.

WR (3): Shipley and Onyegbule are in. Metoyer appears an OU lock. Ladarius Brown, Desmond Roland, Marquis Jackson are still possible. Hakeem Flowers is a pipe dream. I think we get 1 more of the above.

TE (1): MJ Mcfarland is in. Jenkins from WA is a tiny possibility if he ever makes it in (I doubt it).

OL (5 or 6): Doyle, Cochran, Hutchins, Flowers are in. Greanlea will be a TX-OU battle (he's all OU if we don't offer during this next jr. day). we should wait on Westerman for as long as it takes. Hegarty will likely be offered during the 2nd jr day.

DE (1 or 2): Rasco and Reed have been offered. Rasco is a true star, but you always worry about the home state LA factor. I hope we don't slow play Hughes to the point that he is not a possibility down the road if we strike out on Rasco and Reed.

DT (2): Desmond Jackson is a stud commit. Marquis Anderson and Quincy Russel have offers, and 1 should be an eventual commit.

LB (2 or 3): Moss and Edmunds are in. Anthony Wallace has an offer, but will take his time. I think he goes to OU. Kendal Thompson may get offered during the 2nd jr day and complete our LB corps. Vaughters is another pipe dream, though we could spin a LB to DE and still take Vaughters.

DB (4): Scott and Evans are enormous commits. Thompson will be a DB. I can't see how we wouldn't offer Quandre Diggs, but he could be an ATH. Frank Shannon would be a lock if offered. Avery Walls is the OOS unlikely possibility here. Turner is a legit possibility if there is still room.

K/P (0): Before the K signing for 2010, I though we would get one. Now, probably not.

Recruiting does get earlier and earlier. My neighbor's kid is a stud RB on his little league team. I bought him a Longhorn cap.

Does that get us in trouble with the NCAA?

I'll give it a shot just for fun!

QB--ditch it for another year
RB(2)--Malcolm Brown, Herschel Sims
WR(2)--Jaxon Shipley, Marquis Jackson
TE(1)--MJ McFarland
OL(3)--Sedrick Flowers, Garret Greanlea, Spencer Grango
DE(2)--Cedric Reed, Darrell Thomas-Kelly
DT(2)--Desmond Jackson, Quincy Russell
LB(2)--Anthony Wallace, Trevon Randle
DB(4)--Kolby Griffin, Leroy Scott, Franklin Shannon, Sheroid Evans
K(1)--got to have 1 for sure
ATH(2)--Chris Barnett (could be TE or DE b/c we will need a couple of both next yr) & Quandre Diggs (S, CB or RB)

That's 21. We're going to have 19 slots after next yr most likely & probably a couple of defections so we may actually go for like 22 by the time it's all said & done.

I'm thinking that Mack and crew will sign around 23 for next season's class.

When is our first Jr day for the 2011 class?

My guesses (choice of players)

QB (0 or 1) - David Ash or JW Walsh
RB (1 or 2) - Aaron Green, Malcolm Brown, Kenny Williams, Herschel Sims, Joe Bergeron, Brandon Williams, Bradley Marquez
WR (2 or 3) - Jaxon Shipley, Miles Onyegbule, Trey Metoyer, LaDarius Brown, Desmond Roland
TE (0 or 1) - MJ McFarland, Chris Barnett (either TE or DE)
OL (4 or 5) - Christian Westerman, Marcus Hutchins, Spencer Drango, Sedrick Flowers, Taylor Doyle, Garrett Greenlea, Josh Cochran
DE (1 or 2) - Nathan Hughes, Cedric Reed, Jermauria Rasco
DT (1 or 2) - Desmond Jackson, Marquis Anderson
LB (2 or 3) - Anthony Wallace, Chet Moss, Steve Edmond, Trevon Randle, Donnie Baggs
DB (4 or 5) - Leroy Scott, Sheroid Evans, Kolby Griffin, Quincy Aldridge, Quandre Diggs
Ath (1 or 2) - Michael Brewer
K??

guess you can take walsh off the list (for now). he committed to okie light. surprising to have such an early commit from a top qb to a non top tier school, unless he's got some family connections to the school.

From what I've gathered/seen, here's my real early look at the top players

QB--None
RB--Green and Brown are heads of the class. Natl Top 50 guys. There's probably 4 more RBs in Texas that will be 4-stars. Don't really have a preference right now.
FB/TE--None
OL--Greenlea and Sedrick Flowers are Natl 100 guys. Hutchins/Drango are also 4-star caliber.
WR--I really like Kameel Jackson who has verballed to OU. Probably see another good crop of pass catcher. Metoyer, Onyegbule, Johnny Haynes
DT--Desmond Jackson is going to be the #1 player in the state. Anyone who says otherwise is a loser. Marquis Anderson is a distant second from Jackson.
DE--Kind of an "eh" group. Perhaps the kid from Klein Oak. Oh yeah, Cedric Reed. There you go. He's the #1 DE.
LB--Wallace from Skyline is the big name. Trevon Randle is also a player.
DB--Evans, Scott and Griffin.

Bundy, agricultural's got a good start with the Cheeks kid from Seguin committing to next year's class. Who else is high on Sherman's radar?

is Brewer Robert's kid? if so, he deserves a scholarship just for having big brass nads in his genes.

I wouldn't be surprised if we skip QB this year unless we can get a big name OOS guy. Also, I think I would take the Sims kid at RB and either Brown or Green.

Coolhorn--we got Cheeks because his dad played at TAMU and he has the size of someone who has the frame needed to play B12 OL. His film is somewhat underwhelming. I don't see him as a Natl 100 player, probably more of a high 3-star.

With the late losses of Fobbs and Nelson, we have immediate needs for: (a) a smaller, blazing fast WR and (b) LBs who know what the hell they are doing.

Aside from that, we need to really focus on the defense. My guesses as to what we'll take:

QB--we'll take 1. Its a down in for QBs in Texas but if you guys pass, we could be the best in-state option.

RB--we'll take at least 1, depending if the 2010 class RBs enroll or not. We've added "bigger" backs, so I think we could go for a smaller size RB this time around (185-195 pounds or so).

WR--3. Take speed over size. Again, lots of good WRs available.

OL--We'll take 2 or 3, just to keep the pipeline full.

There's talk of us going to a 3-4. SO we need to start adding 3-4 personnel. These "tweener" DE/LBs are going to become 3-4 OLBs at TAMU. For the most part, Mack seems to ignore these kids. This is where I see TAMU being able to load up. Mack gets the Reggie Wilsons, Jeffcoats, Eddie Jones, etc... We need to take the tweeners and unleash them off the edge.

As many CBs as we can sign. Not DB who can play either safety or CB, but pure CBs.

I'll play and Feb means an early commit.

QB: Ash (Feb)
RB: 2 of Sims, Williams or Brown (Feb for first two)
RB/FB: Bergeron (Feb)
TE: McFarland (Feb)
WR: Shipley (Feb) Either Onyegbule or Metoyer (Feb)
OL: Westerman (Feb) Flowers (Feb) Doyle (Feb) + 1 more

DT: Jackson (Feb) Anderson
DE: Reed (Feb), Hughes
LB: 2 among the Feb 13 visitors
S: Evans (Feb)
CB: 2?
ATH: Diggs (Feb)

With rumblings about Cobb being important in next years offense I think we do make a big push for Bergeron.

This is just my wish list. I know we probably will not get all but it would sure be nice to get these guys.

QB - None
RB - Malcolm Brown, Herschel Sims, Brandon Williams
WR - LaDarius Brown, Jaxon Shipley, Trey Metoyer
TE - MJ McFarland
OL - Christian Westerman, Sedrick Flowers, Spencer Drango, Garrett Greenlea
DE - Jermauria Rasco, Cedric Reed, Nathan Hughes
DT - Desmond Jackson, Marquis Anderson
LB - Steve Edmond, Anthony Wallace
DB - Sheroid Evans, Leroy Scott, Kolby Griffin
Ath - None

If Lemming doesn't consider Desmond Jackson a great DL then he need to wipe the Notre Dame jizz outta his eyes and see things for what they really are.

I like most of you guys over here, but if it meant Jackson would sign an LOI with TAMU, I'd shank you with a prison knife formed from a toothbrush.

Wow, that Lemming quote floors me. How can you make such a broad based statement? The state of Texas has dozens of great players every year.
A few former HS stars played at the superbowl yesterday, for example.

I'd be willing to bet that if any of these Texas guys signed with ND, theyd be considered tops in the country all the sudden by lemming.
