2 cycle vs 4 cycle weed eater

I hate 2 cycle engines - the mixing of the oil, the temperamental nature if you don't use them regularly, etc ...
I'm with brntorng on this - find one with changeable heads. We now have a Ryobi and much prefer using the edger attachment for the sidewalks as opposed to doing the string trimmer w/ the B&K. Of course, we have a corner lot which requires about 800' of edging.

I bought a Craftman rechargeable edger and blower. Plenty of power (18V) on both, the only problem wa the sring kept breaking. Do they make higher grade string for edgers?

2 cycle... 4 cycle... I don't remember what I have. All I know is that I can use straight up gasoline and don't have to mix anything.

Its all personal opinion here is mine.

I started with electric. The chord is a major beating. It takes longer to jack with the chord, roll it up, than I spend edging and weedeating combined now.

I wouldn't recommend anything with a battery for the lawn. The battery will wear out over time and not hold a charge. They you have to dispose of it in an environmentally friendly way.

I then had several 2-cycle trimmers. They seemed to last me about 5 years. I had 1 Stihl and 1 Ryobi.

I since have moved the the Torro 4-cycle trimmer I bought at Lowe's. I've had it 3 years. Its prime, put choke on, pull sputter. Second pull move choke to middle, pull it starts. I have the edger and blower attachments as well. Its a fine piece of equipment for < $100. The 4-stroke is superior for the edging attachment given the low end torque. The 2-cycle was slightly lighter(not much), and better at trimming.

If it matters, my background is I used to race 2 stroke motorcycles and work on them constantly. Additionally, I grew up on a farm maintaining equipment. Additionally, I worked for the highway department mowing and sometimes edging in the summer during my college days.

My Bottom Line
-------------------------------
Very small yard = Electric
Normal size yard = 4 stroke
Doing it commercially = get a high end 2 stroke
