Regardless of any other commits, these 2 make the class a legitimate top 15 type. Last yr's debacle didn't push us off a recruiting cliff.

The aggies can still find great joy that their ladies are playing for it all in the Women's NC tomorrow night.

I guess the Aggies will change their tune to "those two aren't that great any way". "We don't need them because...." and so on and so on.

I never had the opportunity to live in Brenham, but my dad has nearly his whole life. So, I have a special connection to that town. It makes me very happy when the Brenham kids go to UT. Congrats to Cole & Brown for making the right choice!

It's probably indicative of some sickness, but I went over to the Txags recruiting board last night.
If you read a few of the older threads, then backwards to the present, you get the following, paraphrased slightly...The Brenham duo are solid for A&M, and Gray will go to A&M or TCU; no way Malcom Brown will go to a school with a 4-3 defense; A&M has NFL coaches, Mack Brown never coached a pro team; Brenham duo will attend UT spring game and A&M spring game, you don't think this will affect them?; nah, and they aren't attending the UT spring game, that's a silly rumor; yes, in fact they will attend the UT spring game; won't matter, UT doesn't have a chance; uh, both just signed with UT; well, congrats to UT on getting two 3-star recruits; they will de-commit before the season's over after seeing UT lose 8 games, still going to A&M; we've got better recruits coming in anyhow, don't need those two; with our staff we will beat UT for the next 27 years consecutively, no matter who the recruits are; yeah, damn right, pass the kool-aid; whoop!
Now you don't need to go over there and waste your time like I did.

Great pickup by the Horns. Great players and even better kids from what I understand. I wish them the best.

Really does show how strong your program is even in the wake of a really bad season. While disappointing, it is not that surprising. Texas is always going to get who they want, we just need to focus on winning head to head battles with the likes of OU, LSU, OSU, etc.

"Texas is always going to get who they want" _____________________ I'd love to believe this, but I still remember roughly 1984-1998. Most of he best players in Texas went to aTm or out of state. UT just got a select few of the top tier recruiting targets. It could and eventually will happen again. Hopefully after I'm dead....

^^^ Oh man. Don't remind me. That was in the days before the internet when I spent hours and hours poring over the Dallas Morning News Top 100 Area, State and National lists. I still remember how devoid the national list was of Texas signees.

Knoxville....I too recall sitting in either my office or in a small restaurant in downtown Midland with a friend scanning the same local, state and national list....I even taped the weekly list from the newspapers on the back of my office door......we had to wait several days for any recruiting news.....how times have changed!!

Even in the "leaner years" of the Longhorns, they still had talent. Eric Metcalf, Shane Dronett, etc. The difference is, they didn't have coaches to coach them.

That said, NO ONE recruits like Mack, so when I say that Texas is always going to get who they want, I really mean as long as Mack is there...which should be awhile.

"I know it's hard to tell how good a player really is when he plays against 4A competition..."

because we all know that 16yos at 5A high schools are bigger and badder than 16yos at 4A high schools, right?

The better 4A schools, (Aledo, Lk Travis, Cedar Park, K Tivy...) probably about 20 or so, would have done very well in 5A playoffs. In 3A probably only 2-3 schools could have competed. Point is that in 4A it shouldn't be difficult to gauge talent, while in 2A its a factor one had to consider....

Windyaggy,

We had "some" talent. But back in those days yo are refering to, for every 4 star we got, aggy got 3 or 4. We had some talent, but not the numbers. No one could ever figure out why nobody, adn I mean nobody wanted to go to UT anymore. Same thing happened at Penn ST. All of a sudden, nobody wanted to go to PSU anymore. The common denominator: Jackie Sherrill. The biggest criminal in College athletics (he and Barry). Joe Pa said so, and he was right. Funny how when he went to Mississippi ST., and the NCAA was watching him real close, his teams really sucked. He had an average team from time to time, but nothing like @ aggy and Pittsburgh.

aggy got whoever they wanted in those days. what you need to understand is that this is the "norm". Look at aggy history and that will prove me right. Except for the fed-ex years, aggy football is mediocre at best. Take away those 10 years and I'll bet the winning percentage is somewhere around .500. Pretty sad for the worlds most loyal fan base who dont lie, cheat, steal, or boo the players....OH wait!!!!!!!!

All I was trying to say is that Texas has always gotten talent based on the quality of the university as well as the perception of the football program and now, under Mack Brown, Texas will always get first look. However, during the "lean years" Texas was still recruiting talent but the Texas coaches couldn't do much with it. Sure, they may not have had the numbers that current Texas teams have, but back then nobody did because the best players were going out of state to play at Miami, Florida State, etc. Is there really any debate that McWilliams and Mackovic regularly underachieved? Obviously not, since they were both reassigned.

As to your point about our history with the NCAA, as a Former Student I am certainly not proud of our rap sheet under Sherrill, however once he was fired, and the NCAA was really keeping their eye on us, we continued to play good football into the 90's before falling off from '99 - present day. In fact, a friend who worked in the compliance department for the Big 12 told me that A&M has the gold standard as it relates to athlete compliance. Obviously we have to based on our previous transgressions, but the point is that we managed to succeed in football and even win the Conference Championship in early years of the Big 12, which by all accounts were after the "FedEx" Years.

I am not sure how this turned into a bashing of A&M and it's fan base when the conversation was really about the University of Texas getting two great kids and continuing to prove their recruiting power in the region (a power which they have ALWAYS HAD), but if that is where you want to take it then so be it.

For what it's worth Windy, I don't have a problem with anything you've said, and in fact, pretty much agree with your points. I appreciate the congratulations on us bagging Cole and Brown, and like you, I'd just as soon this thread not get hijacked. There was a talent disparity between the two schools back in the Fed-Ex years, the reason's been pretty well-documented, and unless agricultural gets back in the pay-for-play business, I'd as soon see both of us move on. The ags had a pretty good year this past season, they're not "back" yet, but the game this season should be interesting.

I really didn't mean to disparage 4A talent level at all. I didn't choose my words very well. I went to a 4A high school and we consistently beat 5A schools in pre-district baseball games. My point was more aimed at the big jump it takes to be productive in D1 college versus high school. Again, my point was that I think Malcom WILL be a productive (and dominant) player at Texas.

Well windyag, thanks for making my point. As we all know recruiting is a crap shoot. You guys just kept reloading, and if someone didnt work out, there was another 4-5 star ready to step in. We had to hope and pray that all of out top recruits panned out. But I will say, if you are not proud of Jackie Sherrill, you are the only aggy I have ever known that feels that way. You Sir are in the aggy minority. Have a great day!!!

Malcolm played against 4A competition his jr year. I didn't notice a considerable difference in stats, for whatever there worth. While I can't imagine Aledo or Lake Travis hanging in very long with Trinity, Pearland, Katy, Stoney Point or Coppell and a few others, I do think they compete very well with about 60 or so (about half) of the 5A teams that were in the playoffs. 5star Garrett Gilbert came from a 4A school and ..oh wait
