I like how this photo was taken just before Babers dropped yet another sure interception.
Here’s a guy who showed how we should be patient with new players, as he went from a frequently burned Freshman to an all conference Senior. He always had the raw talent. Due to a sorry state of recruiting and development, he was thrust into the game as a not-ready-for-D1-yet Freshman. And he often played like it. He was panned on the radio sports talk shows, etc. Well folks, when you put in a young raw CB to defend against the likes of pass happy BYU, and the run and shoot UH, you shouldn’t expect too much.#21 Grady Cavness

How’d you like to be the quarterback to follow Bobby Layne? Colt was up to the task of following Vince certainly but that’s not generally an enviable position in sports or anything else for that matter (see William Howard Taft).![]()

Hand the ball off to RB’s and pass to Duvernay and Johnson. Offense is going to be good.Freshman. Holy crap, he's ripped.
Notice whose name is misspelled! Fire the editor! Well, maybe it's a little late for that.![]()

Mine too. I've always envisioned the SMU DB was at a frat party the night before this game boasting to his frat buds that "Earl wasn't so bad and if he comes around my side, I'm going to lay him on his a$$." Didn't work out too well for him.My absolute favorite photo of Earl.
