#10 Louisiana vs #3 Texas

We are getting spanked this weekend...
From #3 to out of the top 10 in one week. Especially if we lose the nightcap, which if we hit like this, we will.

Don't understand why White moved his line up around like he did. At least a stud pitcher shut us down, and not just anyone.

Throw out those gaudy numbers from most of those weak-sister teams early on, and our hitting coach looks like a flop hire vs real good pitching.

After a flop of a football season, Baylor besting our volleyball team, and basketball teams sucking, it sure would have been nice to have a kick-*** softball team....

Game 2 much better defensively.....O'Leary shut them down aside from HR by the big girl... Texas wins 2-1....
UL is a solid team with good pitching. They beat some quality teams so a loss to them isn't terrible.....
We gotta hit better and play better defense this week against the big girls ( UCLA, Washington, etc. )

1) Pleased with the play of the team against a top 10 opponent. Facing two good pitchers who were "on" and still grinding out some runs was good.
2) Elish and O'Leary both just happened to run into a slugger who came out of her recent hitting slump. She was the only one who had the muscle to power the ball into a stiff wind and over the fence
3) O'Leary looking the best all year
4) Box score shows that "Rhodes doubled to left field, RBI" to score the second run in the second game, but c'mon it was a dropped ball! Stat padding?
5) Box score also doesn't show 3 LA standing around on a high foul back behind the plate watching the ball drop between them. Their coach was MAD!
6) Burke, on a hot streak - everyone else, not so much

Texas had some good at bats against some very good pitching. Our pitching in both games outside of the meatballs for home runs was tp notch. IF defense was legit. Overall pleased with the way we competed against a top team.

ULL has some ball players that take some Daddy or Mama Hacks at the plate. Hate the big leg kicks though as a timing mechanism. It leaves very small room for error but when you can connect right on it, goes a long way. Not sure living for the home run away from their small park in the post season will workout well for them.

Glad to see O'Leary get back into the groove. Need to have two quality starters.

I do not like Washington in left. She just cannot find the ball off the bat and gets a late jump. I have noticed that for a couple of years. We need her bat so I guess it is what it is.

I don't know if we really need Washington's bat more than as a pinch hitter. I think she struggles with the inside pitch, and has some really bad at bats against elite pitching.

Lauren burke is the hottest hitter on the team right now. I wouldn't be surprised to see her moved to the lead off position this week. Although Jefferson is batting very well this season, its just something about her in the leadoff spot that doesn't look or feel right. She is better in the 2nd position.

I think you may be right about Jefferson. I was saying, "Mike needs to move Jenae to the top of the order because she's consistently getting on". Then he does it for the Louisiana game and suddenly, it seemed not to work out. Of course, it could be that she faced two elite pitchers. I think Jefferson at the #2 spot gives Mike better options. But on the other hand, sometimes Jefferson starts out with 1 out when she comes up to bat, so it limits options with her too.

100% agree! I don’t like Rhodes leading off either.. I like this
Burke RF
Jefferson 2B
Elish P
Rhodes CF
Iakopo 3B
Sullivan 1B
Day DP Slack
Ellsworth C
Hathaway LF
—Washington PH, her defense is gonna cost us at some point.

I'm kind of of the opinion that Ellsworth is not giving us what we need at the plate. I'd prefer Sully back there.

and her fielding is little league...How do you let a ball roll between your legs playing RF as a college player ???? SMDH

Washington, Iakopo, Slack, and Jefferson have fielding issues......A couple of them we can put up with because they have value at the plate.

Iakopo has made some nice grabs at third and Jefferson will come around. Washington is the only real issue
That's what I was thinking. Iakopo is a really good 3rd baseman. She has made amazing plays and has a rocket arm. If we can just cut down on errors then we truly can go all the way.

If we play well we are surely a WCWS team this year if we don't run into a buzzsaw of a team that happens to get hot at the right time. Hopefully we will be THAT team that gets hot when it matters.
