Arch only needs to run it once per quarter to keep the defense honest.

And that's the thing. They can slide or run out of bounds to protect themselves 19 times out of 20, but we saw it from Quinn at least a couple of times. That 20th time when that extra yard is needed for a huge first down, their competitive fire ignites, they lower their shoulder, and take a massive hit.

Arch will NOT be running like that next year, when he is the starter and we have no experienced backup. He will slide and take sacks like Ewers did, because the coaches will make him. He almost didn’t get up from that play, and got the boom lowered on him on that fancy run to the left where he reached for the pylon.
Anyone on our schedule will take 15 yards and an ejection to put Arch out of the game. He will run about as much as Patrick Mahomes, and no more.

I heard that by a not so credible source that evening. Have not been able verify anything.

Txags had a post on it but was posted as a " what if".
 
In the 2024 season, our points per game was 33.00. I expect for it to be over 40 this season. Arch’s ability to run, scramble and avoid sacks will make that much of a difference.
 
We will consistently score in the low 70s. Arch will win the Heisman, Wimbledon, the Masters and the New York Marathon on the way to a 55 point margin of victory in the natty. It will be epic.
 
I'm reading that the "sports books" have us as the favorite to win it all next year. OSU is 2nd. No pressure there, right Arch?

I noticed in the game last night that both teams liberally called running plays for their QB's. And ND had no problem scoring from inside the five on their first drive with a QB run. Arch should bring that weapon to the table. Just don't fumble.

I agree that Arch should be let loose to run but i have doubts Sark will let him be a running qb except to escape a pass rush. That extra blocker while the qb runs is valuable to convert a third down. A running qb creates all sorts of problems for the defense especially when he is rolling out and then could pass or run. Cant wait for next season.

Sark has never had a "running" qb and he isnt going to start with Arch.
His DNA is " pro style" drop back passers. Arch will have the green light to bail out and run but doubt very seriously that we have more than 1 or 2 "called" running plays for Arch.

To me it is more about the threat to pull it and run, which keeps the backside defenders honest. If they crash hard, Manning can make them pay. Otherwise, it is the ability/threat of Manning getting chunks of yardage on scrambles and keeping plays alive. This may keep the linebackers a step closer to the line on their drops and require a spy. If I recall, most of the damage VY did running were him taking off on pass plays. Same with Colt, who was not a running qb, but a very good scrambler.

Agree^^^ mostly. I think Sark will definitely have a couple of standard rollouts and/or run pass options in the playbook.
But, Sark is also very creative and thinks outside the box. Sark will definitely have unexpected unique ideas about how to use Arch’s skills.
