Luka trade

Irl Luka is a generational talent.

But as a Mavs season ticket holder, his bitching and whining and body language was a beating as you could see it all game even when he's off ball. It was a beating.

My buddy is torn up. But I just think he merited AD plus 3-4 FRPs. I would have been fine with that.

If the trade had brought real, lasting value to the Mavs, the Luka deal would have been okay. However, trading for a breaking-down 32-year-old was not a good thing.

Now they are raising season ticket prices, shows the fans the Mavs are just in it as a money grab for their absentee owners.

The Mavs have become a walking joke and a cautionary tale for every GM in the league. They have nuked bridges in this town and absolutely carpet-bombed their relationship with their fans. It is astounding how badly their decision-making has been on this and how just completely tone-deaf and blind they have been. It starts with the fact that if you were going to trade Luka, which you shouldn't but let's go with if you were, you should have gotten a ton more and it should have included a young superstar, not an aging injury-prone one. I actually respect the arguments for a trade, I disagree, but I respect the arguments. But this trade was a heist for the Lakers who absolutely gamed Niko Harrison. Mark Cuban has to be beside himself that in just a little over a year since he sold a majority stake they have undone decades of fan outreach and made his former franchise a laughing stock.

Anthony Jones is a great player. But the injury bug was widely known to all. Had we gotten a healthy player (like LeBron has always been), then this trade actually might have been a good thing because Anthony is a demon on defense along with being a high scorer. Then the Grimes trade for an injured Martin again defied logic.

EXCEPT... this may have all been about money and the owners didn't want to max Luka out or pay Grimes as I believe he was going into restricted free agency.

But they should have gotten so much more (at least viable players) for Luka. In the end, they completely missed on the fact that this was like trading Roger Staubach (Captain America) in his prime. The intangible of fan pride and love for Luka is not something people solely focused on wealth get.

And now, I'm a Laker fan or at least, very interested observer.
