UTRGV @ Texas 12/29/2024

Overall good win but we are going to have to be much better at finishing at the rim. We left at least 20 points on the board due to missed layups. We got away with it today but that’ll be the difference in many SEC games this year.

We will be a dangerous team as the season progresses and will make the tournament.
History has shown that Vic's Texas teams play some " ugly" games early in conferance play. Fortunately we have won most.
But our early schedule this year doesnt allow us much wiggle room for ugly games.
We'll see how it plays out.

As a newbie, don't presume to know that I am reveling.

Then don’t bad mouth the team every chance you get. Texas gets enough hate from their opponents. I’ve never understood why supposed fans have to be negative every chance they get. Maybe that’s an “oldie” thing. Regardless, it’s disgusting.

Again. Dont presume to know anything about me.
Strictly one persons opinion based on this teams recent history.
I have posted plenty of positives on this team over the years.

The fact is this team is a work in progress and there will be bumps and bruises along the way and just pointing that out.
If thats disgusting to you thats unfortunate.

There are ways of pointing out things that the team needs to work on without the attitude. It’s unfortunate you can’t see that, and it’s disgusting when a fan consistently belittles the team.
 
After I attended a game before the holiday break, one thing I took away and mentioned to a friend (and fellow Texas WBB fan) was that the demeanor of our young players seemed to still be very high school... or immature if you will. Apparently this is a huge part of Vic's current frustration but, as he mentioned, that's something that comes with youth. Not every player steps on campus with the mindset of Booker, Harmon, etc. We'll get there. It may take a couple of good @$$ whippins to learn the lesson, but we'll get there.

That very well could be the first... I feel like our veterans will be ready, and I'm pretty sure OU will be ready. But our season this year depends heavily on the new faces in our program. We need them and we need them consistently.

Only problem is Vic doesn't use the bench in close games at all.

He traditionally tightens the rotation once conferance play starts. One would think the 3 freshmen have shown enough at one time or other to warrant court time.
And Jack has improved somewhat from last year to also warrant minutes. With our 2 headed center thats potentially 10 in the roatation.
So this will be interesting moving forward.

I think you're on the wrong side of this little spat. @cnb is a very even handed poster who does an excellent job of couching his critiques "without the attitude".
 
I thought attendance was pretty good for a nigh-D2 opponent over the Holiday break.

Principles has nothing to do with it. Open look after open look after open look at 3's clank off the rim. These aren't forced shots but wide open looks.

We only took three shots from behind the arc in the first half. Just felt to me like we weren't looking for the weak spots in the zone, we just relied on having taller posts and quicker guards such that we could go right at the strength of the zone and still beat multiple defenders.
 
To be honest, I’ve never known Vic to use the bench so often in pre-conference games before. Maybe it’s a sign that this season will be different.
 
You know, now that I think about it, should the UTRGV women's team be the Vaqueras, not the Vaqueros?

And Jack has improved somewhat from last year to also warrant minutes.

I really like the athleticism and hustle but she still kind of moves like she's not used to being tall yet.
