UTRGV @ Texas 12/29/2024

One last warmup before conference play. I hope to see the starting five come out and punch 'em from the git-go. Texas is going to need that mind set for the remainder of the season, and it needs to be happening consistently from here on out.

(I will say, however, that I loved this game when we played there last year and the Valley treated us like royalty. I hope we play there again next season.)
 
It’s listed as on regular SEC NETWORK at 3 pm on Frontier. Not familiar if Sling has this channel. It’s not being streamed…just cable.
 
I'm interested to see what the starting lineup looks like. Personally, I kind of liked that four guard line up we started with last game.
 
We don't really seem to know the principles to beat a zone but we're talented enough to make up for it.

They definitely don't know how to beat a press and are not talented enough to make up for it.

The refs have called #1 for UTRGV for two or three fouls just for standing there with her arms straight up as Oldacre pivots and then leans into her and initiates arm to arm contact. She's frustrated and so is their coach, and I don't blame them. Hate that reffing mentality no matter who it favors.

Principles has nothing to do with it. Open look after open look after open look at 3's clank off the rim.
These aren't forced shots but wide open looks. Occasionally someone will make a couple in a row and we get excited but then fades quickly. We just arent a good 3 point shooting team.

Agree on the fouls on the player guarding Oldencare.
 
That second period was pretty lame for a while. Texas barely outscored UTRGV and only when they poured it on in final minutes. When the starters went out, the play really dove. More than I've seen before. I know Texas has it in the bag, but still hard to watch.

Vic post game presser indicated that as well. He didn’t like our practice this week and really had very little positive to say.

We left home at our usual time. As we approached the Moody, we found Manor Rd blocked off. This happens sometimes. We detoured. Every single road leading to the parking garage was blocked. By then it was 2:40. I did not feel like driving to another garage blocks away and hiking in. I went home and turned on the television. Props to all the fans who did. Of course,many fans do that every game. It is different if you know that when you leave home. You plan.
 
Andrea & Alex were good as usual but whenever they cut back to the studio with Kelli Harper and what’s his name, it was just plain awful. I’m not sure I fully appreciated how top-notch LHN was. Too bad they didn’t just let LHN take over the SEC Network.

True. Some of the ledge jumpers may not like the first few games of conferance play.

Or the ledge jumpers may be pleased with the first few games of conference play. OU only won by 18 over a 7-6 New Mexico State at home. Hmm. Let’s see what happens before reveling in our presumed misfortune.
