2020 Recruiting - Football

I was wondering what are our chances with RB Evans or any of the other 5 star rbs. Just coveting. My short list for remaining recruits are Evans, Flowe and/or Sherman or even White, Linberg, Broughton, Rodgers...one can dream

From TFB (Super K) --
A big visitor who snuck in this weekend was 2020 LB Josh White. The reason this visit is significant is because after his recent LSU visit, I got the impression from Josh that he wasn’t planning on visiting Texas for the Spring Game and perhaps not at all. I’m told the visit went well and it’s sounding like like Texas may actually get him back on campus again with his mother. LSU is a tough one to beat here but this is a step in the right direction....
LSU thinks he is theirs

Where do you think Texas stands with Bijan Robinson after the visit?
I don't think any schools are really separating for Robinson yet, but I think Texas put themselves in position to move away from the pack if that makes sense. This staff does a great job making out of state prospects feel at home, and they do a ton of research to make a total pitch for those recruits. They did all of those things from what I know. For a prospect like Robinson, it's about hooking him on the first visit and getting him to come back once again. IF they can get him on campus for another unofficial and a following official, I like their chances with anyone.

This is RB Bijan Robinson's high school coach from Tucson after visiting Austin last weekend.

Quotes from Princely Umanmielen currently ranked as #11 SSDE in the nation and #30 overall in Texas, per the 247 Composite --

“I loved the visit. I got to sit in on the defensive meetings and defensive line meetings to see what it was like. The game was a little chilly, but it was worth it.”

“I hung out with De’Gabriel (Floyd) and Peter (Mpagi). Hanging out with the players afterwards made me feel like family.”

" ... Mark down Dayron Butler III as a name to add to the list that the Longhorns are keeping an open line of communication with at the Defensive Back position. Butler is a speedy 5’10, 160lber that has the nation’s top 100-meter dash time this year, with a time of 10.24 (you can watch it here) at Austin suburb Pflugerville High School. That’s some serious speed and anytime you see a time like that, it is going to attract attention. He’s been receiving steady attention from the likes of Iowa State, Baylor, Houston, SMU, Kansas State, and feels like Army and Air Force are close to making offers.

In addition to having the top 100-meter time this year, he also competes on Pflugerville’s 4×100 and 4×200-meter relays and in the Long Jump. Butler III says he also has an interest in running track at the next level and the attention there has increased in recent weeks as well.

Butler III was invited out by Texas Assistant Coach Corby Meekins, and told me that Texas informed him that they’re going to keep the lines of communication open. He says that Texas is interested in him as a Cornerback and Butler III also brings added value as a Return Specialist. If the Longhorns were to eventually turn up the heat and present an offer, Butler III made it clear that he knew what he would do, “I would take it right away. I would commit on the spot.” Butler III informed me via text.

My take: I believe that Butler III falls into the category of guys that Texas is going to continue to keep in contact with (similar to Ethan Pouncey) while waiting to see what some other targets do first. He could be an intriguing option in later months if Texas is still in search of adding some speed to the roster, which is something that Head Coach Tom Herman has stated in the past that Texas will constantly seek to improve.

Strake Jesuit has a kid, Matthew Boling, that ran a 10.22. Also a 20.58 200m. A Caucasian lad. So, Dayron isn’t the fastest.

Jitter Fields had “an amazing start”, but forgot which way to go.

Wayne Johnston had the second fastest start ever at The University, but zero lateral movement.

That said, you can’t coach this kind of speed. Find room for the kid.

DJ Monroe?
Daje Johnson?
Edorian Mc Cullough?
or
Victor Ike?
E Mac fastest dude I can remember

I believe the fastest Longhorns ever were in order:

Lam Jones

Wayne Johnston

Herkie Walls

Tony Jones

That said, Coach Royal said Jimmy Saxton was the only player he ever saw that could do a 180 and be at full speed on first step.

I'm not sure if Eric Metcalf matches the straight line top end speed of those mentioned, but he's close and I'd put him at, or near, the top for acceleration from a stop and from a change in direction.

I remember seeing a video where Edorian ran against big time Oklahoma recruit, and national track prospect DeBryan Blanton, and ran I think a sub 10 hundred meter.
I can’t find the video any more.
Agree about Jamaal, and Marquise.

Lam was 9.1 in the hundred

Johnston & Herkie went 9.2

Tony was 9.4

I think Jamaal & Marquis converted times would be 9.5
There were some issues the starting line with Herkie's 9.2 (same for my supposedly 9.3; o
ur times in the 100 meters were close). However, he did push m
e down the list at Garland High. Old-timers at GISD have said that Marquise and Herky would have been very close, but Herky would have won due to his start - he had a sprinter body and Marquise had a football body in high school.

Maybe I shouldn't care, but has anyone else noticed that over the past 10 years or so, WR and DB don't seem to wear knee pads anymore and even wear their pants above their knees so they're effectively wearing knickers/shorts. Obviously this is to make it easier to run and hence make them faster on the field. It's probably technically an equipment rules violation, but I've never seen it enforced.

Some may not even wear thigh pads. It's getting where teams might as well take it to the logical conclusion and outfit the WR and CB in shorts.
