2020 Recruiting - Football

If we take two RBs, and he is #2, wow am I one happy person, he is a do it all guy, offense defense and both WR and RB.

Tom is going to find a place for him to play.

Can you imagine having Mookie, Evans and Ingram switching out? That is lethal, and then you add in Mookie and Whittington lining up all over the field, it's enough to scare every DC in America.

NFL DC's will be saying their prayers thanking the Lord they don't have to face the Texas offense. :hookem2::bevo::ousucks:

Some film on OT Jaylen Garth (6'5,285) -- protected Roschon Johnson at PNG

" .... Alabama and (aggy) were believed to be Texas’ biggest competition. A key reason why Texas finished atop his recruitment, as opposed to various prominent SEC recruiting powers? As Garth detailed to BON weeks ago, the Longhorns finally turning things around on the field certainly turned the tide in Texas’ favor.

“They made me change their perspective on them a lot,” Garth said. “Beating all of those ranked teams made me change my view.”
4-star OT Jaylen Garth announces commitment to Texas

Watching Garth's video, here is what stood out on me.

1. He is aggressive when run blocking, he likes to pancake his opponent.
2. He moves his feet well when pass blocking

Here is what I didn't like.
1. On run blocking, when the ball is snapped, his first movement is to basically stand straight up. You can get away with that when 95% of the guys you face are inferior to your level of talent, but when he gets to college and everyone is bigger and stronger, he needs to learn how to use good technique, and add that to his aggressive nature.

2. He likes to hold, If you are going to hold, do it in a way that you can't see it on video, cause if I can see it, so can the refs.

It's difficult to evaluate oline talent based on film and working without pads. I completely trust Hand to be a great evaluator of talent and trainer so there is no problem there. I love this kid's aggressive nature, that is something difficult to find in big men who are constantly taught from a very young age to be docile around others.

Agree--The OL position is very tough to evaluate from HS film/going against HS competition (especially from the smaller and medium-sized schools). I like how Garth is quick to get to the second level, and his footwork appears very quick for such a big dude. As you noted, he does seem to have a holding habit that he'll have to break. His development will be in good Hands (pun fully intended)...

Collins quote (I remember her) --

" .... the Longhorns remain a constant. Collins’ mother, Benita Pollard, was a four-year contributor for Jody Conradt in the early 90s, helping Texas women’s basketball to the 1993 Southwest Conference title and the 1994 Southwest Conference tournament title.

“I grew up at UT,” Collins said. “I grew up always being at UT.”

Some stuff on Lindberg and Stanford from Eric Nahlin Inside Texas --
"I think it could jumble up the list a little bit. We'll see how I like it. I've heard from Jake Majors, he says Stanford isn't all that, but Darius Snow told me that I'll love Stanford. ..."

What is it about Stanford beyond academics:
"NFL preparation. I think that will be big because they always send o-linemen to the NFL. And then coaching, I mean I think Texas coaches are really good and give you that family feel but I think Stanford coaches could do that too."

From the mom (Emily) -- She knows the Stanford visit is pretty big and she's conflicted on where she wants Chad to go. Really she just wants him to be comfortable with his decision. I asked her about Chad being a leader in the class and she said he knows he has that potential but he has to be sure in his decision before he takes on a more vocal role. As of now he really doesn't know where he's going. I get the Texas optimism but he isn't the slam dunk some think he is.

....This visit was pivotal with recent offer Xavion Alford. I believe Texas may have moved into the pole position.....

247 thinks we lead for fast rising S Xavion Alford from Shadow Creek, but they also think LSU is an outside threat. Also, Alford went to the same middle school with Anthony Cook and D'shawn Jamison.
