Shane to Start Texas Bowl

IMHO, listening to his press conference, I doubt very much that TH cares if Texas wins or not. That in turn makes me not really care about who starts at QB or much else about this game.

He paid some lip service to wanting to win the game, but, really, this was all about the extra practice time. I think he knows with his crap o-line and all of the player defections/injuries, the chances of winning this game are pretty slim.

Yeah, Herman doesn't care about the difference between a winning season and a losing season. :rolleyes1: That attitude worked out well for the last guy. Maybe Herman wants to coach a second tier team too.

Ultimately it’s about winning and losing. I agree with 4th, Herman better care. If we don’t, after all of the alignment crap and everything else, at 6-7, he will have done no better than his predessor. The fact that we are even having a discussion about the possibility of a losing season is mind boggling.

It also sounded to me like Herman didn't really care about winning this game.
It sounded to me like making it to a bowl and the extra practices were a moral victory in a and of themselves to him. He added "of course we want to win the game too" but it was almost like he heard himself speaking and realized he had to add that.

If he loses, its his funeral. I am starting to not care either.

I also agree that if Shane is getting the start only to prevent transfer it won't do a bit of good. He'll transfer anyway and I wouldn't blame him. If they lost Shane, it probably has less to do with playing time, and more to do with Beck/Herman's gameplan which is glaringly handcuffed to certain personnel. Which isn't going to change.

How depressing is it we're looking forward to Rising to come in and be the savior.
Both of the QBs we have could be great but after playing too soon, and behind this OL trying to execute Tim Beck plays, they are damaged goods. I don't wish this on any further 18 year old freshmen.

If Herman isn't into winning the game, he is the wrong coach. Bowl wins can launch a positive note, confidence for the next year. Something they need.

If Buechele's dad threaten to walk....we should say---bye.

Shane Buechele is a class act from a class family. If indeed his father said what has been attributed to him (by a highly unreliable source), Steve would only be expressing what many in Longhorn Nation believe, including yours truly. Let’s not blame the messenger.

Texas cannot afford to lose Shane. No program can afford to lose players who comport in a manner that brings pride and honor to the school. Shane works hard, keep his head down, and he willingly supports the player who is attempting to replace him. And, the kid is plenty talented.

If Shane were to leave it would be a black mark on Herman and his program.

I'm sure Shane is a great kid. What I see on the field is a pretty good arm ,decent running ability, decent accuracy. However he is afraid to screw up, plays tight, takes a lot of sacks and gets hurt a lot. We are loaded with talent at WR. Maybe watching the Mizzou QB will loosen him up.

If he transfers that is on him for quitting the team and not Herman. K -State won last night with a pretty good 3rd string QB who got them a W in their bowl. Hopefully He can get us a win in our bowl.

I just hope if Shane starts, he gets a chance to play for more than one or two series. He does seem to play a little tight, but he doesn't play with that gunslinger mentality like Sam does that cost us 3 ball games this year (well, one he was playing concussed) K-State won with their 2nd string qb, btw, after their 3rd string was benched early on. Also realize that UCLA was playing a backup qb also

Creek,

You are oh so right. Shane is to blame for stupid play calling. Shane is blame for Mensa & Beck NEVER attempting to exploit mismatches. Shane is to blame for WRs running the wrong routes. Shane is to blame for WRs never looking for the opening in the zone or coming back to him. Shane is to blame for not coaching up an incredibly talented WR corp. All Hail, Coach Buechele!

I shall concede he holds the ball too long.

In his defense, this offense requires a Zero Step drop.
You literally have to take the hand off and throw the ball in the same motion.
Its not easy to execute.

I got to watch every HS game from JerryWorld. Watching the QBs make reads that our QBs can't? Watch the progressions by both QBs in the Manvel/HP game. Light years ahead of Sam and Shane. Why?

Great OLs, great WRs, oh and don't forget playing against high school defenses.

True what you say but the Dr.S didn't get it right after Sam became concussed or almost concussed

We don't know that.

We are loaded with talent at WR.

Yes, but they have not lived up to it.

Who are you and what have you done with our Detective? My level 5 military grade identity software does not recognize:

Objective input here.... Ehlinger is my guy if I'm Herman. At least for now. Buechelle isn't as good. I mean I know that was how I felt when we played you guys.
