Shane to Start Texas Bowl

So does that mean Rodriguez can't get a medical RS since he already redshirted? Seems to me like that would be the only reason he would play since it doesn't make sense to play 1 game if you can RS.

I hope he is starting several other positions on both sides of the ball as well, what with all the no-shows, injuries, and suspensions. Looks like a time to really dazzle the staff.

I guess Shane needs to show something for a change. He never was the same player that he was for the first 6-8 games of his freshman year.

I guess they need to leave Shane in longer than one series so he can show something.
I guess , if Shane is your best shot to win, you actually game plan around that rather than splitting time with both QBs during practice.
I guess it would be nice if the OC could do more than say, "This is all I got. Wonder which QB can make it work best."

Some might think that starting Boo is just a ruse to prevent him from transferring – you know, throw him a bone to make him think he has a chance to be the guy next year.

After Chip Brown's article concerning Steve Buechele's supposed displeasure, some might think this could be causing consternation by the staff because they need an experienced backup for Elinger next year.

Now that I think about it....

This is what tripped Mack Brown. if this is the case, Herman will muddle along for a couple of years and then go out in dazzling mediocrity like Charlie did.

So ... I hope this is NOT the case. Parents need to let coaches coach. Air grievances in private and do NOT speak to the press or anyone who might possibly leak it. This kind of stuff is corrosive even to a squad with top level athletes at all/most positions.

then ... see opening statement.

Maybe Shane will impress by finding an "internal clock" that let's him know the rush is coming and throw it away sooner.....or find the receiver sooner....it's been discussed over and over again....if Shane can't find a way to keep plays going then Sam will come in to keep plays going when the original plan fails.....It's not a question of "good kid" or "talent", it's right now someone has to make a play with this o-line with this team and these coaches in this game. Ideally, Shane would be put in for optimal situations where Sam fails, but no one has that crystal ball......If Shane could escape the rush or sustain drives then he'd be in more often but he doesn't. He's the captain on the field when he's under center/clapping (little levity). If he's quarterbacking it's his job to get the first down and eventually score. With the guys they have on the field. I want Shane to succeed, but, when he doesn't, bring Sam in quickly if that's what it takes to not have 3 and outs for multiple series. The Maryland game sealed Shane's fate. I saw him twice stare down the field while the linebacker from Maryland ran right up under his nose. Like he never saw him. That showed no sense of where he was, imminent danger/pressure. Sure, Sam comes in and at times you don't know what's going to happen. But, Sam sustains drives more often than Buechele has, and it never looks like Buechele's going to take over a game, ever. So you go with the next option......

Buechele (not that I am a QB coach) has a tendency to wait for a receiver to get open so he can throw that accurate pass that he throws. But in this big boy game half the time you don't get that luxury but that's his style. He needs to throw the ball to a window just before the receiver breaks open. It's anticipation and it takes moxie and guts along with practice to do that. Not that he never does that. Mayfield, I hate to say this, makes a living doing this. McCoy was able to do that with his receivers. That's how you play QB and it's easier said than done. So if buechele can get away from waiting for the receiver to be perfectly open he would actually be really good and not take so many hits.

One thing that TH needs to do a better job of is recognizing that his QB may be playing when he is a little concussed. The assistant coaches need to help him with this. I am certain this is why our QBs made some terrible decisions at times. A QB is not going to volunteerily take himself out "for the good of the team". He believes As long as he standing up and thinking a little bit he is OK to play. Don't rely on a Dr's clearance but pull him if he might hurt the Team's play. We now have back ups.

Those backup are the only ones playing in the bowl game. We will see just how good those backups are.

I thought the whole deal about getting a doctor’s clearance is so the coaches wouldn’t make that decision....I guess the answer is that if a doctor is asked to look at a possible concussed player then that player is done?

Successful coaches make decisions and stick with them. Saban had two 5- star freshmen Qbs last year. One had even redshirted the previous year. He picked Jalen Hurts, the other guy transferred out at season end. That's how it goes. Waffling between Two guys hurts both players and the team.

Apparently our qbs are young and have imperfections. I don’t understand why Herman can’t fix these teenagers. I bet Charlie would make sure they went to class, used a number two pencil, opened the door for every less fortunate, left their guns and drugs at home, wore a tie and then thought about football last. Oh yeah forgot that’s what happened.....

I supported the hiring of Herman, and still support him, but we laid out a ton of cash, gave him everything he asked for. He's supposed to be an offensive genius but has taken two QBs that were taught to read (have you ever seen a Todd Dodge student that wasn't exceptional at reads) and suddenly they've forgotten everything they knew.

Laid up recovering from surgery and a virus, I got to watch every HS game from JerryWorld. Watching the QBs make reads that our QBs can't? Watch the progressions by both QBs in the Manvel/HP game. Light years ahead of Sam and Shane. Why? Neither Coach Martin nor Coach Allen make $5 million a year.

YOUNG IS AN EXCUSE FOR LOSERS LOOKING FOR EXCUSES! (May want to refer the "youth excuse" to Mr Hurts and his father.)

Then Charlie was a loser at Texas. In fact Charlie has the worst winning percentage in the history of Texas football, and will own it until someone comes around and breaks that record.

True what you say but the Dr.S didn't get it right after Sam became concussed or almost concussed so TH needs to recognize the situation and make the right call. Sam wasn't the best choice of QB at that moment when beuchele was fresh. I knew that in real time.

Man, that’s the one job of the doctors is to get that right....
