Zilker Summer Musical

OK, this is blatant self advertising, since I'm in it, but get out and see this year's summer musical before it closes. ZTP is doing "Music Man" in the park this year. It's free to the public, though you have to pay $3.00 per car for parking and we do ask for donations. Still, you can bring a pic-nic and sit on a blanket to watch live theater for almost nothing. It's actually a pretty good show, even if I do say so myself. We play Thurs.-Sun. this weekend and Thus.-Sat. next weekend. The show starts about 8:20 but you'll want to get out earlier than that to get a good spot. Bring out your blanket, go swimming in Barton Springs, then come back and eat your pic-nic and watch the show.

We saw it a couple of weekends ago. As always, the Zilker summer production was excellent. What a great setting on the hillside near Barton Springs Pool (with a capital P)

Cash for the noggins and the piggins and the firkins ...

I played Ethel Toffelmeier when the Temple Civic Theater did Music Man back in 1991. What was great about it was that I was the lead dancer in the Shapoopie, and I was 34 at the time.

You can dicker, you can talk, you can dicker, you can talk.
You can talk talk talk talk, dicker dicker dicker...

I love that play and the movie. As an older viewer, I see much more there than I did when I was a kid.

He's a what, he's a what?
He's a music man,
and he sells clarinets to the kids in the town
with the big trombones
and the rat-a-tat drums.
Big brass bass, big brass bass,
and the piccolo, the piccolo, and
and uniforms, too,
with the shiny gold braid and the stripe running down....

and when the man dances
certainly boys, what else,
the piper pays him.

Yes sir
Yes sir

I'm playing the widow Paroo. She's great fun.

The widow Paroo, Miss Adelaide in Guys and Dolls, and Lily St. Regis in Annie are my three dream character roles. I've only gotten to be Lily.

Break a leg!

My favorite line (imagine this in and Irish accent):

"It's a well know principle that if you keep the flint in one drawer and the steel in another you'll never strike much of a fire."
