WTF. During Fox's ads for Zack & Miri Make a Porno during the WS, all they said was "Zack & Miri" and the logo on the screen did not have the words "Make a porno" on it. WTF?

Yeah, you can't say that word! The horror. This is America, after all.

Some newspapers and TV stations are run by idiots.

Or have to pander to a bunch of idiots.

They all think that a movie with the word "porno" in it is just that, a porn movie.

I like to think I'm as open-minded as any other normal person, and I don't try to artificially shelter my kids........

..........but I was plenty happy not to have to explain to my 9 and 10 year olds what a "porno" is in between innings last night.

The kids thing is why. I read a few articles, one on cnnsi about how 3.5 innings worth of baseball for all the marbles might attract a large, younger audience that typically doesn't have the patience or can't stay up late enough to watch 9 innings to see who wins.

I've seen the same spot on other stations as well. As a matter of fact I thought the title was just Zack & Miri until I saw this thread.

After doing a little googling on the film I noticed it originally came out with an NC-17 rating and now has an R rating. Was this because of subsequent editing?

I have no problem w. the title being edited on any show where kids could be watching. One less things for parents to have to explain. Like "Dad, what's ED?"

Kevin Smith: People are afraid like, what if my kid asks what porno is? Just tell them. Tell your kid that the porno's not for you. My kid asked me what a porno is, I'm going to be like, guess what? Hannah Montana is not in it. Not yet.

I think it might be a different marketing strategy. They are pressing the "romantic comedy" angle hard in the new commercials. Probably a smart idea to go a little broader after they got the original porno message out to the fans.

it may be "marketing" but it's just thinly veiled censorship. I saw the exact same ad on late night TV last night (during Family Guy" and it had the full title. During prime time, not "porno".

Side rant, it really is funny to see companies run for cover when something gets deemed offensive. I tried to find a list of censored or changed commercials, but couldn't, but just a couple off the top of my head:

1) commercial for some cleaning product or other, mom is running around cleaning up after the kids and keeping them out of trouble, one scene shows the kid about to put their cat in the dryer, only to be stopped by mom. Couple of weeks later, now the kid has a basket of eggs (what?).

2) This one ran a few months ago, commercial for some high-end trail mix, shows all these nuts and stuff spiraling out of the bag, making flowers and such. Ah found it. Now, you notice it says an "extraordinary nut snack". My head popped up the first time I heard that, had to explain it to my wife, and sure enough, weeks later, now it's just an "extraordinary (silence) snack" (but you can still hear the "t" from the bad edit. Just makes it all the funnier to me.
