Your Top Five War Movies

There were some good actors and good acting in Sink the Bismark, but the German lines were bad and badly done and the attempts at humor and humanity were of uneven quality. I love the movie, and have watched it three or four times as an adult because I love the story it tells. But in terms of being a quality movie, it doesn't measure up to the great ones.

Great call with The Bedford Incident. It's not in my top five, but it's a terrific movie that I think most people have never seen. I think it was a passion of Richard Widmark to get that on screen. Thanks for reminding me about it.

Wesser...the first movie that I thought about was The Alamo. I saw it in theater in 1960 and have probably seen it a couple of dozen times since then. One of my all time favorites. I'm a Texan through and through...I have always loved Texas history and lore. BUT, I don't believe you can put it in the top 5, 10, or even 20...as great war movies go, it has too many flaws.

1) Lawrence of Arabia-can't believe I left this out of the original list, my favorite movie of all time. Guess I consider it more a biography than a war movie, but it is a war movie.
2) All Quiet on the Western Front
3) Gone With the Wind
4) Casablanca
5) Henry V (1944)-great movie, best ever film adaptation of a Shakespere play (?)
6) African Queen
7) My FIL's favorite, Gunga Din

We Were Soldiers Once should be moved up the list in my opinion. Really loved that movie.
