'You don't know where I come from'

Prior to his fight with Joe Calzaghe, Bernanrd Hopkins was interviewed on Jim Rome and stated that he couldn't lose to a "white boy." Rome joked with him and said he probably shouldn't go there, but Hopkin kept saying "You don't know where I'm from . . . you don't know where I'm from . . . "

My initial thought was, "You know, I don't know anything about where he's from - he's probably got reason to have stereotypes about white people, etc." But is that even really an excuse to say stupid crap like that?

Would a white person be excused for a racist comment by saying, "You don't know where I'm from - I never knew black people growing up, I never went to school with them, I only know of them what I observe."

rome could have said something like "i don't care where you're from. no one comes on here talking that racist crap". then he could have told you what an epic statement it was, say "rack it", and slobber on his own knob for the rest of the show.

If only our country's country clubs had camera's rolling in them....

Stupid thing for Hopkins to say, but he's probably what... high school educated at best? If even that?

Dumb thing to say, but similar things are said by well heeled college educated white men every single evening in the Country Clubs around this country. to think otherwise is terribly naive

My high school was half African American and if one of them lost to a white guy in a fight the entire school knew about it. He was then known as the guy who lost to the white boy.

Nivek - pretty much every country club I have ever played cards at there is the racist guy that says racist **** and nobody says a peep. They usually take a good look aroudn the room first to make sure the skin hues are "appropriate" for their humor/commentary.

Not excusing either one, in all honestly I think both groups are morons.
