Yale Murder

Man for some reason I am really intrigued with this case. I'm watching Nightline and like most of you I've been reading and watching what I could pick up from the news and the internet and I've come to the conclusion that the killer of Annie Le has to be the stupidest person on the planet.

OK so as you well know this is some research building where there's 75 cameras and she's seen going in at 10am and she isn't seen leaving. OK so the only conclusion is that she was still somewhere in the building or she was taken out...well you get the picture. Forgive me but I have an interest in the macabre and YES i watch a lot of the Law and Order and CSI yada yada yada....lol. Anyways...it turns out she was found in the building in the basement of this research lab...now like most research labs there's these magnetic card swipes to access areas of this place....didn't this guy think of this? I mean when it comes to the suspect pool, it just went from potentially 100's to something more manageable. On Nightline they said they have this research assistant in custody but hasn't been officially arrested but is a person of interest and they are collecting DNA. Supposedly he has defensive wounds across his chest. The police have also concluded that the bloody clothes found in the ceiling of the research lab was not Annie's but of the killers. Not to mention that the basement was a controlled area and only certain people had access to the basement...and I also want to point out that this guy Raymond Clark is NOT a Yale student. IF this is the guy you know he has gotta be the stupidest person on the planet but he's got balls to pull off a murder in the daytime at Yale of all places. Don't you have to be smart to be a Yale research assistant? I also heard that Annie Le was with the suspect at some point prior to going into the building. hmmmmmm...... anyways....I feel they have the guy. defensive wounds, research assistant who probably had all kinds of access in the building and he failed a Polygraph. I can't wait to see how this plays out.

RIP Annie Le

My wife's niece goes to Yale and the students are stunned. The crime rate in New Haven is terrible so they have escorts, cameras and other saftey measures.

It is this way at other Ivy's too. At Penn there were all sorts of devices. I found a panic button of sorts in one of the men's bathrooms near admissions where I had an interview with a counselor. The reason I did not go was not security but financial ones, imagine that. Many of the Ivy League schools find themselves in less than savory areas to include Columbia. It is not the end of the world but more precautions are taken there than say, UT.

If you are ever in Philly go visit Penn and you will be maybe startled at the surrounding environs. Hopefully it has gotten better than when I went there in the mid 90s.

Certainly it is a sensational crime, and it sounds like there is a suspect who worked in the building-saw that police want a DNA sample from him. I didn't realize Yale was on the "wrong side of the tracks." Bad situation, college students deserve a safe atmosphere.

I graduated from Yale in 2005 from grad school- (Texas 99'), there is a ghetto on the NW side of the campus- there are nice neighborhoods on the NE side, downtown New Haven on the SW, and commercial the other parts.

During my two years there I had two classmates that were robbed. Yale does an amazing job of security- it's just that the ghetto part is really, really bad- and the thugs sometimes walk over to where the students live. Yale, much like Texas, has bought much of the surrounding property around campus so that they can develop it in a way they find good for the university. Personally I never felt unsafe walking around campus and did it all the time.

In this tragic case- I don't think the bad neighborhood nearby had anything to do with her murder. Sounds like something personal was involved- but, just a guess.

It sounds to me that this guy was a lab tech and knew the victim. I'm betting that the motive may be jealousy of some kind (delusional) where the guy had a thing for Annie, but she didn't want anything to do with him. With all the DNA he left behind(bloody clothes, evidence on the body, possible skin under the fingernails, etc...), this guy is toast.

The area around Penn is still pretty bad, but it's a lot better than it was. I never felt unsafe walking around campus after dark, but I also didn't walk around without glancing over my shoulder. Worst thing that ever happened to me was a couple of guys (who didn't appear to be students) came out of nowhere and told me they 'liked' my coat. They ended up walking away.

Duke - beautiful campus in a dangerous town. Last year, the president of the UNC student body was pulled out of her car at an insection near the Duke campus and murdered right there in the street. A Duke grad student was also murdered in his apartment just off campus. Same perps.

Jesus. What a tragedy. Strangulation usually indicates a very personal feeling in a killing possibly like rejection. I'm standing by my original theory. Jeez, at age 24, this guy is going to spend a long time in prison and be well-liked as noted above. Payback can be cruel.

They think it may be related to the fact that the girl was apparently not keeping her lab mice in accordance with established lab protocols.

I am not kidding.

Some people are really nuts, but I have got to suspect more than the treatment of the lab mice as a motive. Bizarre, indeed.

Did you read the bottom of the above link where someone talks about this guy always writing in green ink to distinguish himself? Then he drops it in a crevice during the murder, and the next day he goes back to try and retrieve it. If this is true, this guy sounds like a total control freak as well as lacking in self-esteem. More bizarre all the time.

guy must have an extremely short temper. this is probably how it went:

1. Raymond confronts Annie in the basement to tell her about the proper handling of the mice.
2. They exchange words, and the conversation heats up.
3. Raymond eventually goes apeshit and strangles Annie.
4. Annie dies, and Raymond comes to his senses and realizes the horrible act he had done.
5. Raymond hides the body, possibly with the help of a close friend (or maybe even his fiance).

Hope the guy gets life without parole.

RIP Annie.

[I had a buddy that went to Yale and a few years back I went to visit him.

I had never been to Connecticut and was pretty surprised.
New Haven Connecticut sounds like it would be Yuppy Ville, but it reminded me of an East Coast Version of Waco.

Ghetto, Ghetto and more Ghetto and smack in the middle of that is one of the prestigous universitites in the world.

Yuck. I think the two obvious notions are:
1. Raymond had some kind of thing going for Annie (e.g. romantic/sexual in nature).
2. He felt like the lab mice were "his" property and that Annie was seriously disrespecting him through the way she handled the mice (or their cages).

If those two angles don't work out, then this feltching theory is as good as any, I suppose. But one key difference is that Raymond is/was engaged, so he [should have] had a readily available avenue for sexual fulfillment.
