Says Texas has the best Fielding, Pitching and Coach yet he says that when picking his favorite, the three he chose from were CSF, North Carolina and LSU.

Lists Austin Wood as the top reliever and Ruffin as the 5th best pitcher.

CSF = best Offense and UVA = Hottest Team

Well, now we don't even have to play the games. Just send that big ol' trophy to Fullerton.

Kendall is about as unbiased an aggy as you will find and his write ups this post season have been very good. I dont have a problem with him picking CSF, that is the smart pick. The smart pick doesnt always win though.

I can see CSF being the pick, even with us being #1 in defense and pitching. I did a break down (let me know if you want me to post the date), and here are just the major notes:Pitching - Texas is #1, but not by much. In terms of ERA everyone in the CWS (except Arkansas and Southern Miss) is in the top 10 in the NCAA in ERA. CSF is just a 1/2 run worse than Texas.

Defense
- Texas has the best field percentage, and CSF is right behind them .003 back.

Offense
- hard to argue this one. Of the CWS teams: Batting Average: CSF 1st, Texas 7th. Runs per game: CSF 3rd, Texas LAST. I multiplied the two (ideally resulting in equal parts hitting and scoring), and sorted by that, CSF first, Texas last.

Coaching
- At this level the coaching might have an edge, and given that CSF has done this before, I would have to say slight.

Ultimately, I have to say, Texas and CSF are neck and neck in the areas that Texas lead in, but CSF blows away Texas in the area that they lead in, and that has to give them the edge.

EDIT - My stats are a simplified version of Baseball America's, so check those out.

And one thing - these are just numbers, baseball is a fickle sport, you gotta play the games.

Oh hell, I pick Concordia.

Doesn't matter what some sportswriter decides to write for an article under a deadline. Way too many variables in a CWS to predict anything.

when you play small ball you're team batting average is going to go down, so i think ba doesn't really matter at all. scoring on the other hand is a little more of a valid point to the extent that texas is going to win more close games. they're not exactly going to put up 10+ runs/game when they're conceding an out each inning to move the runners.

He may be an unbiased aggy in terms of evaluating his own team, but the dude would rather chop off his own arm than predict Texas to win a national title. I don't have a problem with anyone picking Fullerton. But to give Texas an edge in 3 out of 4 categories and THEN pick Fullerton? Come on. Either you like Texas or you don't. Period.

Good analysis, although I'd say that Texas' edge on pitching is very slim. ASU boasts 2 of the best starters in the nation. Given the spread-out schedule in Omaha, 2 pitchers can be enough.

the defensive response to this kind of thing always cracks me up - just take the picks for what they are - its nothing more than a site trying to create some interest in the CWS. nobody is making any guarantees

I never understand all these repsonses like - 'well then why don't we just give up now', 'we might as well forfeit', 'that writer is a biased douche', etc. but then when we are the favorite pick nobody has a problem with it

i just see all this complaining on here about the biases in sports reporting - but then we get all bent out of shape when they don't totally kiss our ***...doesn't make sense. its only bias when they dont pick us

i guess thats just how it is

It's because we suck, we're doomed and because we don't even deserve to be on the same field as these 7 other teams. Just like in '05!
