Just finished installing SP2 for windowsXP. Then I needed to get the latest versions of my firewall and also anti-virus. Not too big of a deal but the process was not what I would consider fast at all. That may be due to the number of people trying to do the same thing however.

Might want to check on the microsoft page to see what programs it affects before you do it too. Maybe upgrade your firewall and anti-virus to the latest before the upgrade might be the only thing I would do differently. Good luck when you try it.

i disabled the new windows firewall cuz i already have my own running and the new security center couldnt seem to find the status of my firewall/av

I havent downloaded this yet but if we have our own firewall with SP2 will it let you disable the mircosoft firewall?

I hope because it cant compare to zonealarm

Yes, you can disable the Windows Firewall. However, you will need to upgrade to the latest versions of your firewall, or Windows might not boot correctly. And actually, the new firewall works very similarly to ZoneAlarm - a program tries to access the Internet, and it pops up a message asking you whether you want to unblock it or keep blocking. As for it's performance and stability versus ZoneAlarm, I have no idea.

After the download, it only took me about 25 minutes to install it, but that was with an Athlon 64.
