I just looked it up on the xm site. thats freaking awesome. i was wondering when the hell they were going to come out with something like this. plus the ability to record is a huge bonus, if the incorporate like a 5 gig mp3 player it would be perfect
I get the feeling that the actual size of it will be big and the sound quality and performance will be lacking. In a year they will have it all down and I will most definately get one then.
A few months ago I had the idea that something like that would be coming out pretty quick.
I picked mine up yesterday and activated it - slightly bigger than the ipod with 5 hours worth of recording available. On the display, there is the ability to run a stock ticker plus a sports ticker. I comes with everything needed for home or car - heck, I walked around campus jamming to it. It has a built in FM transmitter to play over the radio. Lastly, the thing looks really, really cool. Service, bc it is our second account, is only $6.99 month.
Sirius and Apple is going to unleash something together in January. Itll be an Ipod with the Satellite capabilities built in, plus recording. I would wait for this if you are a sports fan.
Holden, does the MyFi get the sports channels and the games? That's one of the main reasons that I'm picking it up.
My reasnoning for getting XM is that I'm almost always going to be around a TV during the NCAA Tournament and I can already get enough Big 12 games (baksetball and football) from Austin. With XM I can get MLB (I will definitely travel more during the summer) plus ACC/Big10/and Pac 10 sports.
Does MyFi let you store all your MP3s or just record off of Satellite Radio? I am thinking about getting something like this, but from what i heard...the Sirius/Ipod does allow you to place all your mp3s plus record and listen to satellite radio.
As for sports programming, MLB and the conferences you listed are on there - double check the programmong guide. I listened to some bball games last night. Sirius will have NFL.
Not an MP3 player; just records from the satelite - kinda like a tivo I'm thinking, though I have not used that feature
Another cool feature is that you can pick a song or artist and anytime that song or artist comes on, the radio will automatically switch.
As an aside, as someone mentioned, combine this, an mp3 player and maybe gameboy/digital camera - instant billionaire.
that satellite ipod would be ridiculous. i'm thinking about getting the xact stream jockey right now. it has a battery pack that would make it portable like the myfi, but i'm probably just going to use it in-car only.
Cancer, that is the way things just are now. They don't build stuff to last or to be fixed, just replaced. What is hip now won't be in a couple months. Just find stuff that will delight you for a year and then move on when the next thing comes along or this breaks. Sucks but it is how it is done now.
They have the technology for all the things we want but don't release it all at once. They make more money w/ slow upgrades every few months. Makes sense, really.
