Xbox or PS2?

I haven't owned a game system since the 1st Super Nintendo. Please also keep in mind that I am nearly 30 years old and my tech/gaming learning curve may be a little higher than most.

Which system is better?

What's the total cost of each?

Do I have to buy any other items to get started?

Are they difficult to learn?

I did the research. Xbox is better. Graphics are better. Games are better. etc.

You can get deals on them. I got 2 gams + Xbox for $150.

You might want to buy a 2nd controller. With XBox you have to buy a DVD remote if you want to play DVD's ($30).

Not difficult to learn, but extremely addictive...

go to a store and try them both out. to me it came down to the controller. i didn't like the xbox, but loved the PS2. sure the graphics are better on the xbox and it has halo and some other exclusive games, but ps2 has plenty of games i love to play, like ssx3, gta san andreas, dynasty warriors, etc. you should be able to get a package with a game and the system for around $150, and the new small version of the ps2 is sweet. if you want online gaming however you'll have to get the old one, which is bigger but probably cheaper now. maddox wrote a good article on this here

i own both, and i probably play the xbox 90% of the time. the ps2 has a much larger games library, but there are hardly any that i want to play. i pretty much own a ps2 solely for playing GTA. one other nice thing about the box is that it has a hard drive, so you don't have to buy a bunch of memory cards.

ps2 is better for sports games like madden and ncaa b/c the contoller is better, but xbox is better for everything else. you won't find any non-sports ps2 game that can compete with halo 2. it really depends on what type of games you like to play

I own both and I probably play the XBOX just a little more because of Halo 2. That is the only reason I bought it. If you get Halo 2 plus Xbox live, then you are set for months.

A vote for XBox here. Graphics are unbelievable. Not the # of games as PS2, but I've never seen one that was available on PS2 that wasn't eventually available on XBox - the GTA series being an example.
Halo is unreal.

The small Xbox controller blows donkey balls. The original is perfect for me, but I have big hands.

I wish I could play Halo2, but Halo1 gave me such severe motion sickness I'm kinda afraid to go there again.

No more than they cost now, you should buy both. That's what I would do.

Of course when I bought both of mine they were double the price that they are now. Oh well.

MarioKart Double Dash kicks *** no matter how old you are.

I do like the PS2 controllers better than the XBOX though.

I won a free xbox, installed a mod chip, added a bigger harddrive and couldn't be happier. among other things, beating Halo 2, a week before it came out was pretty fun.
