I know this is probably like asking do you prefer Bud light over Miller Lite, but I am not a gamer. Which console would you pick for an 8 yr old? He is not going to play online. He does not play Call of Duty or Halo. I am just trying to get him a system that will allow him to play some cool games with cool graphics.

If you don't have a loyalty to one over the other, I'd pick PS3. It has a blu-ray that is one of the best on the market - gaming notwithstanding. I like the blu-ray feature so much, I'm thinking of adding one in the bedroom.

For an 8 year old, I'd go with the 360. The 360 has a simpler UI and kid-centric features such as avatars and achievements. I've never looked at the PS3's parental controls, but I know the 360's are pretty simple and easy to use, if that's important to you.

The PS3 is an excellent machine, but it's designed with an older audience in mind. It feels like a high-end piece of equipment while the 360 feels more like a gaming machine.

There you go...................your decision is now complete

kid is 8, get him whatever you can get the best deal on. He wont notice any graphical difference or have enough friends on either online network to matter. you should be able to get either w/ 120gb hd for <$300. just check slickdeals or something

get him a Wii. Better for the younger crowds and he can still get madden, ncaa etc when he graduates to older games.
