Game 2 finds Texas looking to take the series with a win today after the ten inning victory last night 4-3.

Left hander Josh Sawyer, will get the start today for Texas and hope to get some offensive support and even better defensive
support than Parker French did last night. The two horn errors kept the Longhorn ace from a win last night even though he worked nine strong innings.

So off to get the starting lineups before the first pitch.
The game is again being broadcast on LHN and the free audio on
texas.leanplayer.com.

In the other conference series this weekend, Baylor scored two runs in the first and never scored again
So #2 ranked TCU wins for the second day in a row, this time 3-2 to go 2-0 in the series.

I have never used illicit drugs, but I thought for a moment I was on LSD when I saw the jerseys WVU is wearing. I hope those are a blue and gold camo look to honor the troops or something. Otherwise it is another Nike fail to pimp / tarnish another great tradition....

The left handed Josh Sawyer is on the bump and ready to go for Texas as the second game of the series is under way.

Leading off is the talented Taylor Munden, who had two hits in the opener last night.
He steps in the right handed batter's box and awaits the first pitch of the game.
WVU goes with the dark blue and yellow, I guess you would call floral jerseys today that are certainly different.
I deem then Hawaii camo jerseys.
Back to baseball as Munden lines a single to left to reach.

The third baseman is Justin Fox, batting righty with one on.
The count runs full and a slider on the outside corner is taken for a K and one down.

Jackson Cramer, plays first and bats lefty with one on and one out.
He blows him away on three fast balls and the last one high is cut on and missed for two gone.

Brad Johnson, the right fielder bats righty with two outs and still one on.
He walks on four pitches to put two on.

Kyle Davis bats right handed with two on and two down.
A balk is called and that puts the runners on second and third.
The WVU left fielder steps back in and it's now a big early moment in the game.
A hanging breaking ball is driven to left for a single that plates two runs.

WVU takes the lead 2-0.

The second baseman Shaun Corso bats with one on and two gone.
He flies out to right to end the inning.

Just like yesterday WVU takes the lead in the first this time 2-0.
Texas comes to bat.

Big lefty Ross Vance gets the start for WVU with now a 2-0 lead.

Johnson leads off against him from the right side for the Horns.
The count runs full as Vance has a side winding slinging motion.
Ben lines it off Vance's pitching hand and beats the one hop throw to first for an infield hit.

Vance is getting some warm up pitches after being hit on the hand.

He stays in and that bring up Shaw with one on from the left side.
The Horn right fielder tries to lay down a bunt twice and fouls it off both times.
Then he K's on a slow change swinging for one away.

Hinojosa bats from the right side with one on and one down.
He walks on four pitches and that puts two on.

Barrera up from the right side with the tying runs on and one away.
A ground ball to third is a 5-4-3 double play to end the inning.

One inning played and WVU leads 2-0.

Sawyer out again in the second and he need to settle down to let the Horns get back in the game.

Leading off for WVU is the Dh Cam O'Brien batting lefty.
He wears a pitch on the elbow to reach on a HBP.

The catcher Ray Guerrini bats righty with one on.
He bunts and the sac is good on the 1-3 out.

One down for center fielder KC Huth from the right side.
He grounds to Boswell at third and the 5-3 is out two as the runner holds.

Munden back up at the top of the order with two outs and one on.
The dangerous WVU shortstop lines a single up the middle by Marlow and another run is in.

WVU leads 3-0.

Justin Fox bats righty with one on and two down.
He grounds one through the hole on the left side to put two on.

Cramer bats lefty with now two on and two down.
He lines another single to right and it goes under the glove of Shaw and that scores two more on the single and
an error.

WVU leads 5-0.

Johnson bats right handed with a runner at third and still two away.
The count runs full and he K's swinging to finally end the frame.

Ugly inning for Sawyer and Texas as the Mountaineer's add three more and lead now 5-0 to the bottom of two.

Vance out for the second and now enjoys a big lead.

Cantu, who is behind the plate today leads off for the Horns.
He walks and has really shown a good eye at the plate this season so far.

Marlow up with one on from the left side.
He grounds a single to right through the hole to put two on.

Boswell bats with two on lefty.
Cantu is picked off second and yet another bad base running mistake for Texas is out one.
He just went sleep and he looked like he may have gotten back, but what are you thinking there behind five runs.

Boswell back in now with one on and one down.
A little nubber to the first base side of the mound and it's a 1-6 force for two away.

Stell, the DH bats righty with one on and two down.
He bunts to the right side of the mound and there is no play and it's an infield hit.

Gurwitz bats with two on and two down from the right side.
He also bunts and it's not a good one as the catcher has an easy 2-3 play to end the inning.

That was ugly for Texas also as after two reach, a pick off really took the wind out of the inning.

Two gone and WVU leads 5-0.

Sawyer is back out and he looks to survive now and should be on a very short leash.

Davis leads off for WVU from the right side.
He walks and here comes Skip and as expected Sawyer is history.

Pitching change.

The new Texas pitcher is freshman right hander Connor Mayes and needs to hold the fort for as long as possible and hope that the Horns can get some offense going.

His first batter is Shaun Corso, the second baseman batting righty with one on.
He bunts and the sac is good again this time 5-3 and the runner is on second.

O'Brien bats lefty with a man at second and one away.
He lines a single to left center to score yet another run.

WVU leads 6-0.

Guerrini bats righty with one on and one down.
He K's swinging on a high fast ball for two away.

Nine hole hitter Huth, bats righty with two gone and one on.
He grounds another single to right to put two on.

Munden back up at the top of the order looking for his third hit.
He bats righty with two on and two outs and the count runs full
The runners will be off and and nice slider gets him swinging to end the inning.

WVU keeps adding on and leads now 6-0 to the bottom of three.

Gosh we are getting killed. Earlier pickoff killed an opportunity to rally. Mayes finally ends the mayhem in the Top of the 3rd.

Gonna take a hell-of-a-rally.

Vance keeps going to the mound with a larger lead each inning as the Texas third starts.

Johnson leads off at the top of the order.
A one hopper to short is one down.

Shaw bat again lefty with one down.
He blast a high deep drive into the Texas bullpen for his first homer ever as a Horn.

WVU leads 6-1.

Hinojosa bats right handed with one down.
A little chopper to third and the third baseman charges and makes a nice play for a 5-3 out two.

Barrera bats from the right side with two gone.
The count runs full and another ground ball to third is another 5-3 out to retire the side.

Texas gets one back, but they need a big inning and somebody to shut down WVU as they lead 6-1 after three.

Mayes back out on the mound a Texas pitcher looks to not let the Mountaineer's score in an inning.

Fox leads off for WVU from the right side and a slicing liner is run down by Gurwitz in right center for one away.

Cramer bats lefty with one down.
He blast a drive to the gap in right center to the wall for a double.

Johnson bats righty with one down and one on.
A ground ball to third is a 5-3 out for two away.

Davis bats from the right side with one on and two gone.
A slow change is taken for K and that ends the frame.

Finally WVU doesn't score in an inning and to the bottom of the fourth they lead 6-1.

Vance is still going as the fourth for the Horns begins.

Cantu leads off from the right side
He singles through the hole on the left side to reach.

Marlow bats lefty with one on.
He takes a slider that catches plenty of the plate for a called strike three and one away.

Boswell bats lefty with one on and one down.
He swings at a pitch a foot outside to K for two away.

Stell up from the righty side with still one on and now two gone.
He inside outs a swing and sends a liner down the line in right and here comes Cantu and the relay is missed and then the WVU shortstop picks it up and Michael just avoids a swipe tag by the catcher to score.

WVU leads 6-2.

Gurwitz bats with one on and two down.
A fairly deep fly ball to right is caught and that retires the side.

Texas gets one, but they still a need a big inning to get back in it as WVU leads 6-2 after four.

Mayes continues on for Texas in the fifth and needs another good inning.

Corso leads off batting righty for the Mountaineers.
He flies to shallow center for one out.

O'Brien, the DH bats lefty with one down.
The count runs full and he takes a inside corner fast ball for a K and two gone.

Guerrini bats righty with two down.
He pops up to short and C.J. has it and the Mountaineers go in order.

Good innning by Mayes and that needs to continue and Texas needs some offense as WVU leads 6-2 halfway through the second game of the series.

Vance still in for WVU in the fifth.

Johnson back at the top of the Horn order leads off right handed.
A drive to right center and the center fielder lays out and it eludes him to the wall and Johnson doesn't slow down till he stands at third with a triple.

A snap throw and again a sleeping base runner and he is picked off third as I think he never even saw the throw.
I don't know what to even say about the base running any more.

Shaw bats with one down now.
He flies out to center for two away.

Hinojosa bats righty with two gone.
He walks on four pitches to reach.

Barrera, in a bad slump at present bats from the right side with two down and one on.
He is hit by a pitch and the ump brings him back saying he stuck his knee out and it was the right call.
The count runs full and the runner will go and he draws a walk to put two on.

Cantu bats again from the right side with two on and two down and has reached twice on hit and a walk.
A liner to the gap in right center is another hit and the double plates two and the pick off is huge now.

WVU leads 6-4.

Marlow up lefty with one on and still two away.
He goes fishing for an outside pitch to end the inning on the K.

Texas gets two back, but that pick off just makes your brain hurt.
WVU leads 6-4 after five.

Mayes back out and tries to keep the Horns close in the sixth.

Leading off for WVU is Huth in the nine hole batting righty.
A fly ball to center is one down.

Munden up at the top of the order again has two hits today.
He pops up to short for two quick outs.

Fox bats right handed with two away.
An inside corner breaking pitch freezes him as the called strike three ends the frame.

Mayes doing the job on the hill and Texas needs to keep the offense going and not make base running blunders as WVU leads 6-4 to the bottom of six.

Vance stays in as the Horn sixth arrives.

Boswell leads off from the lefty side.
The count runs full and a flair off the end of the bat falls in shallow left for a hit.

Stell up with one on from the right side.
A double play ball to second and he throws it away at second into left field to put two on the error.

Gurwitz bunts and the third baseman's throw goes off the first baseman's glove for another error as a run scores.

WVU leads 6-5.

Johnson up at the top of the order with runners on the corners.
A ground ball goes to short and it's a 6-4 force as Ben beats the relay and another run scores.

Tied at 6-6.

Shaw bats lefty with one on and one down.
A one hop on a line to second and this time the 4-6-3 double play ends the inning.

WVU implodes on defense and as bad baseball abounds the score is tied 6-6 after six.

Woooooooooooooooo....I love stepping in at the right time!!!

Horns score four in the last few minutes to tie it up!

Sorry NB, I turned on the LHN a few min ago and it's been pure domination!

Mayes, who righted the ship on the mound is back out for the WVU seventh.

Cramer leads off lefty for the Mountaineers.
He K's swinging on a slow and low change for one away.

Johnson bats righty with one down.
A hopper up the middle and Hinojosa flags it down and spins and throws and gets him by a half step for a gold star play on defense for two away!

Davis bats right handed with two down.
A hard slider is swung on and missed for a K to retire the side in order.

What a job by Mayes and what a play by Hinojosa.

They are up and stretching in Austin and it's tied 6-6.

Vance still stays on for WVU in the seventh and is at 100 pitches now.

Hinojosa leads off after the great play last inning.
His drive is dove for and gathered in by the third baseman and he not only robs him of a double down the line, but he gets up and guns him out by a step. What a play that was too.

One down for Barrera with one down from the right side.
Another ground ball to third and this is more routine and the 5-3 is out two.

Cantu up from the right side is perfect today and he is as hot as Barrera is cold.
He sends his third hit on a line to left for a single.

Marlow bats with two gone and one on from the lefty side.
A fly ball to center retires the side.

This time a great play on defense helps WVU keep the game tied in this wild and woolly contest and to the eighth its knotted at 6-6.

Mayes still in there and tries to keep it all square as the eighth starts.

Leading off for WVU is a lefty hitting pinch hitter in Shaun Wood.
Another K swinging on a high fast ball for one out.

O'Brien, is the Mountaineer catcher batting lefty with one gone.
He is rung up on a border line pitch low for two away.

Guerrini bats with two down from the right side.
He fouls one off Cantu that shakes him up off his knees.
He walks it off and is back behind the plate.
A liner to right and Shaw runs it down to retire the side.

Great job by Mayes and he deserves a win and that could happen if Texas can take the lead here.

Game tied at 6-6 to the bottom of eight.

Amazingly Vance is still in as the eighth for Texas starts.

Boswell leads off from the left side and he has not seen Vance well all game and could by why Vance is still on the hill.
He still doesn't as a weak swing is a K and one away.

As expected after Boswell goes down, the coach is out and Vance is done.

Pitching change.

The new WVU pitcher is right handed freshman Shane Ennis and this is the weakness of the Mountaineers, the pen.

Connor Macalla, who drove in the winning run last night pinch hits for Stell and is now the DH.
He bats lefty with one down.
He pops up to new second baseman Cascadden, who came in for Corso for two gone.

Gurwitz is up righty with two down from the right side in the nine hole.
He pops one straight up by the mound and the shortstop takes it to retire the side in order.

Eight played and tied 6-6.
