The idea of "changing Washington" is nothing more than meaningless sloganeering, and it's stupid to expect a president to "change Washington."

Washington is the way it is because voters reward the politicians who behave the way Washington politicians behave. They reward candidates who run negative campaigns and those who refuse to compromise on anything. Of course, the punish politicians who do compromise. It's the glorification of the Michele Bachmans on the Right and the Sheila Jackson-Lees on the Left. So long as that is the political environment, no one is going to "change Washington."
