WR Worthy Offered 7 Figure NIL to Leave

There are so many lowrent coaches out there, the list of guesses wound be lengthy, but my list starts with USC, Oregon, LSU, FSU, Ohio State, State Penn, the Convicts

I never thought I’d say this but I am falling out of love with college football.
its like the nil and the portal were both designed to ruin it at the same time.
We all know certain schools will exploit every loophole without shame and the college football world will be theirs. I am not sure if I would care anymore even if we perpetrated it and came out on top.
it’s just becoming gross.

Glad X chose to remain a Longhorn.

What's his NIL deal here?
I don't know but it has to be on par with what he turned down
Does anyone think he stayed at Texas out of love for the school? X gettin paid

Anything that makes money will inevitably trend towards this very thing
This is America after all

Time to follow another sport….College Football and the NIL —-ugh…These aren’t student athletes, so what the hell is the point …
They just wearing our gear.

I have run out of sports... Dropped college basketball more or less 20 years ago as the product is aweful due to rule changes, dropped baseball during one of their strikes, quit NBA thanks to Jordan (how can you enjoy a game if his airness is not in it), just got bored with NFL (dont know why), lost interest in boxing after all the great Mexican fighters and Pacquioa retired. So college football is all I have left, and it looks like I will probably stop watching as I do not watch any minor league sports and how can you argue that college football is not minor league football now?

How can football programs recruit current players at other schools that are NOT in the portal?

They're not supposed to, that's the problem. Seems like this would be a cut and dry violation, but I'm not sure the NCAA wants anything to do with this mess right now. Seems like they're just letting the carnage happen since this isn't their thing so they can say "see, I told you so" when in reality had they taken action to do this responsibly we wouldn't be seeing this mess now.

There are some real sleaze balls out there, not the least of which is probably Lincoln Riley. I never had a good feeling about his character, apparently for good reason. I’ve said it before but leaving a program that put him on the map and then subsequently taking their top players is all the proof anyone should need.

“But dukesteer, Williams and others ‘wanted’ to follow LC. Should they be precluded from doing so?” The classy thing would have been to explain to those players that it was not appropriate. Not a chance this guy would ever take the high road.

Until the NCAA (or some body) reverses the decision to allow players to transfer without sitting out a year, this mess will not be controllable.

Why? Contact a different school's player under scholarship... Violation. Period. What does NIL have to do with it?

As long as it's a rich fan and not someone from the school, why aren't they allowed to inform someone of an offer to pay them for use of NIL? Anyone who didn't know this would happen from the get-go was fooling themselves.

I didn’t like the NIL deal when it was bounced around as not only me but also many other college football fans, had the opinion it would get out of hand and it has. Guys being offered now a million or more is insane. So the “college football is played by amateurs” is now a thing of the past. Maybe next after a season, colleges can make trades for players. “We have an All American receiver and we’ll trade him for an RB an OT and your top RB.” Maybe there is a draft like the NFL. Few kids accept a ‘ship to a school any more for a great education, they want to have shots at NCs and now big bucks. They don’t give a **** whose colors they ware or the school, only the NIL deals they get.

End of rant.

Think I'm just about done here y'all. It was a great 20+ year ride on this board.... good lord.... the memories. College football is dead.

This isn't what I signed up for or bought season tickets for so long for. Won't do it again. I remember when kids picked one school out of many for loyalty, the education, and the preparation for the majority of their life where they won't play sports. I remember when kids stayed with the team to support their commitment.

Enjoyed it while it lasted. Yeah... I think I'm done guys... it's been a fun ride. Decades. :hookem:
I hate this is how it ends. I don't support this. I can't.

I'm in the "running out of sports to watch" group also. I'm down to College football and golf right now, and both of those are losing my interest rapidly. College football because of NIL and Portal, and golf because of the Saudi deal. Hope golf holds strong, but money wins.

HS football is still interesting, the playoffs are fun, but that won't last long. NIL moving in there also.

On the bright side, maybe my liver will last longer without those 11:00am kicks.

i feel the same way. I was a season ticket holder for 32 years and dropped my seats last year. This is just a football minor-league now. The field hasn't completely tilted yet, but within the next 3-4 years the "have's" will get all the A players and it really will be the same 7-8 schools every year in the playoff mix.

I see mostly 2 kinds of people in the world today...
People who embrace modernity and any type of progression/"advancement" as bound to happen, natural order, inevitable, and moving into the future...so lets all fasten up the blinders, cheer it on and be glad.
...and then some who say, "Wait, Is this good? Is it right? What kind of fruit will this produce? Should we really be doing this?"
...And then proceed to get shouted down by the all-knowing majority who think any and all change/"progress" makes us somehow more advanced or better.
Been happening forever..but seems to be getting worse...
Results aren't looking too good from where I stand.
Carry on

I enjoy watching women's softball and volleyball on Longhorn network. Occasionally the last part of a soccer game. Basketball not so much.

I’d say that there’s a point behind which even blind loyalty is tested. Is that $200,000, $500,000, $1,000,000? I don’t know, but very few cannot be persuaded. (Sam might have been one of them.)

There are potential solutions. Just some thoughts:

> Reinstitute the one year waiting period for a transfer. This first step wouldn’t be difficult.

> Establish specific NIL ground rules, and create and enforce severe penalties for violations, including loss of scholarships and being banned from bowls. The question is, who can enforce the rules?

> Some type of Collective Bargaining Agreement. Won’t be easy, but it’s needed.

> Force a lifetime ban on any booster that breaks the rules.

> Establish significant financial penalties for anyone who tampers, including agents.

I do believe that some rules are coming. Sure hope so.
