Would this HDTV make a good computer monitor?

It has an HDMI port/connection. It might not be the best HDTV but for the price it might be a fantastically huge computer monitor?

Of course you might need to adapt the signal or get a video card with the HDMI output. Can you do it or would you do it?

I got for it...refurb and all. You could just get a video card that has DVI output (fairly common) and get a DVI to HDMI cable for the TV.

It is a beast in terms of weight. I'm gonna do it. Hopefully the refurb blemishes are just cosmetic.

OK. Got it yesterday and have it set up right now just as a regular tv. XBOX and DVD's look great. Regular cable(not digital or HDTV) looks fine but obviously not HDTV like at all. For 459$ with free shipping I am not complaining at all.(it is a refurb with remote)

It did take about a good hour of playing with the personal settings to get the color/contrast/etc set up to the crisp picture I am used to having. Also if you plan on getting this one there are two possible flaws that might inhibit you if you are a "phile" of any kind. (both are minor to me video issues given the price)

During the credits of an HBO movie yesterday I saw one of them come to life on the one I received. It was a one each of about a millimeter wide red/blue/green line flashing on the screen as the text finished displaying. That was one flaw that apparently is part of this tv from Phillips when text shows on the screen at times.

Also apparently the brightness tube controls are not calibrated to have a high end dampener to inhibit burn in if you are running the screen at 80-100% brightness. (I'm not sure the exact figure when it kicks in so I put mine at about 70% and is seems fine)

I watched part of that hbo movie, two dvd movies, and played a bit of xbox on it to check it out. The HBO was ok quality but it is just standard cable. The DVD and XBOX were great in my opinion and neither was anything higher than component cables.(non-hdtv connections for both the DVD and XBOX)

I'm happy so far especially for the price. Now I need to check out the DVI to HDMI computer possibilities for it as well as the HDTV antennas I hear you can get cheap and use for many HDTV stations in bigger cites like Dallas for instance.

It was free and pretty damn quick. I did have to hang out at home for a half day to accept it though. I am happy with it so far but have not used it as a computer monitor yet.

You had me considering that thing for a minute until I looked up the dimensions and measured my TV cabinet. That thing is too damn wide for me - otherwise looks like a great deal (our TV cabinet was expensive and looks great in our living room, thus I'd rather not replace it right now).
