Worth it to calibrate HDTV?

I bought a Sony KDSA553000 this I absolutely love and I am wondering if it is worth it to calibrate it? The picture looks amazing, but a buddy told me that calibrating it can make it look even better. I think it cost around 300 from best buy so its kind of pricey. Anyone ever had this done?

Yes, definitely worth the expense but I would not have the calibration done by Best Buy unless they are isf certified. Here's a link to ISF Calibration.

Also, you have to calibrate for each input.

are you on Time Warner, DTV or over the air?

If you're on Time Warner, I wouldn't bother, because their signal is crap.

Calibration is absolutely worth it. Best Buy calibration is probably not, however.

Are you in Texas? VisitThe Link He gets high praise on AVS.

If you are leery about dropping $300-$500 though, you can buy either AVIA or Digital Video Essentials for less than $50 and get a pretty good picture but you have to do it yourself. I've used DVE and its pretty dang good (both are DVD's, you can buy them on Amazon).

Edit: It should be mentioned that a properly calibrated TV will be much much much less bright than what most TVs are set at... Both for sake of visual accuracy and for TV life. If you love bright bright bright, make sure to tell the calibrator that so he/she can adjust accordingly.
