worst travel experience

i swear my wife is traveling bad luck. i have never had so much trouble traveling as i have since we got married almost 2 yrs ago.

last night we drove to houston to leave our dogs with her parents and head to iah for a 6am flight early this morning. 4am, we get in her brother's car. battery died. move to sister's car. get to airport in plenty of time. 6am flight delayed 2 hrs. we take off at 820am. told reason was that the crew had been flying last night till 11. arrive in miami at 11am. flight is set to leave at 12. then goes to 1250. we get on (best boarding a flight i've ever experienced... no groups, guy just said "get on". took 10 minutes for the plane to board). at 12:20 we're told it's going to be 40 minutes to leave. we sit on the plane 1:15, waiting on the co-pilot to pass thru customs. 1:30 we take off. we should have been in turks and caicos at 12:20. we land around 3. waiting on bags... nothing... yes, bags are gone. along with another couple coming from iah. they told me we'd have our bags by 10pm tonight. it's 11:35, my wife is passed out and we have no luggage.

thats funny. I just picked up my buddy from the airport yesterday morning. His flight was late. Delta... he says delta is always late

Given the Miami connection point and 6am departure, I'm going with American Airlines as the culprit on this one.

Relax on the bags.....you don't need that much clothing on Turks and Caicos anyhow.....

When we went to T&C, our room (Sands At Grace Bay) wasn't ready when we got there. Hotel offered us free drinks on the beach or at the pool until the room was ready. Me: No problem. People in line in front of us: *****, *****, *****.

Just be glad that you're there and the rest of us schmucks are in our offices wishing we were a couple hours late to T&C.

This cruise we booked was the worst ever. Maiden voyage, beautiful boat, claimed to be unsinkable. Then the yahoo runs it into some floating debris, iceberg or something, and the damn thing sank like a rock. I'll never book a tour on the Titanic line again.

Yeah-- I was about to say, Quit Bitchin'! You're in T&C!!!

ok, so i was bitching a lot last friday. it was indeed american. i called them saturday and got them to approve $100 spending to buy stuff we needed (sun screen being the most important). our bags showed up saturday afternoon. thankfully the concierge at the hotel was on the phone to american early for us. we stayed at the regent palms and they were very nice with our mishap.

home now

but it was a great trip. ran into the other couple on the beach and they got their luggage as well on saturday night.

worst thing to happen, my laptop crapped out. logic board just decided it was done. oh well.

KMAC.. i was thinking it was not all that bad, until you got to the lost luggage. After all, you got into Turk & Caicos only 2 1/2 hours late.

Flight delays bug me the most when it causes you to miss your connecting flight. Ugh, that screws everything up.

You didn't mention kids, so consider yourself fortunate. If you had a 6 year old and a set of 2 year old twins travelling with you in that scenario, you would be questioning your very existence.

Enjoy the rest of your vacation, i am envious.

1. I decided to pay my friend a visit in Vegas on a random Thursday instead flying home to Houston which I normally do on Thursdays. I arrive in PHX and the America West terminal my flight is in is PACKED with *************. Pure, unadulterated chaos. The connecting flight is delayed an hour. People start to get restless. More and more people start showing up because arriving flights are piling on top of one another and none of the departing flights are on-time. People start raising hell and bitching at the gate agents like it's going to help their case. One-by-one, the gate agents quit. QUIT! ******* left. I had to rent a car to get to LAS from PHX. There are like 100 flights going there.

2. I was coming home to Houston from Philly on a Thursday night and my flight got canceled. The only seat I could get on U.S. Air was in the last row (non-reclining 2-seater) sitting next to Ruben Studdard's stunt double. That's a long ************ right there.

3. Any Continental flight. seriously, could you put my seat any closer to the one in front of me and give me any less width? Seriously, I often fantasized about breaking into Larry Kellner's house and kicking his *** all over that place.

American lost my luggage once. Had two bags. They delivered 1 to the doorman. On the tag was the #2 crossed off, replaced by a #1. As if I wasn't going to know. Good news is they did replace all of my "expensive" clothes. Well, my sisters.

I have some absolute ridiculous ones. The one that stands out the most, because American agents were so bad, was coming back from St John via a connection in Miami. Sitting in STT for flight to Miami watching CNN - it was the night the air marshall capped a dude with mental problems - and we get in to Miami only 1.5 hours late. We're okay for our connection. Except that they can't get the jetway to right level for our plane. We sit at our gate while they mess with the jetway for 1 hour. Look at the board, our connection hasn't left yet. We start running. Get to the gate and see our plane backing out. SOL.

So, we're still okay, see if we can get another flight that night or worst case get a room (it was like 9:30pm at this point). Except that we cannot find an American employee anywhere in the terminal. Walk to another terminal, find two American employees talking who won't look at us and tell us they can't help us after I stand there and then interrupt them because they were clearly trying to ignore me. Exit the terminal to go to ticket counter. No flights tonight. They can get us home tomorrow at 2:30 departure via Dallas??? We're a Miami hub going to Chicago and they want us to wait almost 24 hours to get home via Dallas where there is weather too? No dice. After I start to get annoyed the American agent "magically" finds a non-stop at 11am to Chicago. I then ask about room accomodations since we missed our flight because they couldn't operate the jetway. Agent says no because of the shooting, American isn't responsible. I ask for his manager and explain that the shooting was not why we missed our flight, but their incompetence. No, can't help.

Wife and I start calling hotels. Nothing. 20 calls and all totally booked. Finally find a Hampton Inn about 45 minutes away - not staying in the airport. Get in a cab with a Haitian lady who hates life. She proceeds to take us through the worst neighborhoods in Miami. I am getting really nervous - its about midnight - and were driving through the projects. She has to make a stop. I figure best case, we get robbed and left there. No, she takes us to a Hampton Inn. We make our flight next day and lend in the middle of cold, snowy mess.

Wimps all.

I knew a guy who had two ships torpedoed out from under him before he could get to Liverpool in 1943. No refunds from that cruise line, either.

If you ever find yourself booked on a flight with Lostdaughter, change your flight ASAP! As much travel as she does, it seems 75% of her flights are delayed more than an hour, cancelled, or re-routed. Flight crew issues, weather, mechanical problems, you name it - she has the worst luck, I swear. The only good to come out of it is that they have never truly lost her luggage, sometimes it came 24-48 hours later, but it has never been actually lost.

The good thing now is that more airports have wifi, etc so she can at least get work done, or watch a movie or two. Back in the day, you were relagated to sitting in an uncomfortable chair, reading a book or people watching.
