I got curious and researched our NCAA stats. So, the question to debate is…was this the worst O in the Augie/Gus era (or EVER)????

Texas offensive NCAA team stats, as of May 24 (national ranking - out of 292 teams)….

Batting Average: .266 (#232)
Home Runs: 12 (#266)
Home Runs/Game: .23 (#271)
Runs/Game: 5.3 (#173)
Slugging %: .374 (#202)
Steals/Game: 1.09 (#140)
K’s/9 Innings: 8.6 (#7)

Goes to show you just how good Texas' pitching was this year!

To bad we chose not to use that pitching in the first game of the Big 12 tourney, but chose to rely on the hitting instead.
I wonder if we are going to continue recruiting Power Bunters.

We play in the grand canyon home runs will be minimal !! We need some gap to gap hitters that hit line drives! I have seen a bunch of pop ups this year!!

Nice job, Buck-Horn, post our pitchers' strikeout stats from the mound and attribute them to the batters.

I immediately knew these numbers were absurd because I actually watched a few games this year, and more than once checked our strikeout stats in particular because they seemed to be so infrequent
.

Our batters did not strike out 500 times, they struck out 314 times, about 5.6 times per nine innings. The reason that stood out so much during the season is that the 2010 team struck out 482 times, about 8 times per nine innings. So strikeouts per nine innings are down about 30% from last year. When I looked at some other years earlier this season, the current team's strikeout rate seemed pretty average; last year was the worst of the years I examined. As of now, this team is striking out about 6.5% less than the 2009 national runner-up team.

Offense inconsistent, but shows up late season. Pitching and defense fair by local standards, excellent by natoinal standards. In other words, typical for the last several seasons. These guys can compete with anybody but will they?
