World Series Game 1

Starting this late because of work. Tie game in bottom of 5th 2-2. Napoli just had a two run shot to tie the game in top of inning. Lance Berkman had a 2 rbi single in bottom of 4th for St. Louis.

CJ Wilson has surrendered three hits but also has 3 ks.

You have to think this one is a must win for St. Louis having their ace on the mound, would be great to steal it though.

I have little confidence in C.J.'s ability to pitch a solid game, so I expect Texas to drop Game 1. Hopefully I'm proven wrong tonight.

CJ now has five full in the books. 2-2 game. If Rangers can get one more out of him and get the lead it sets up well for Ogando/Adams/Feliz.

Wilson goes 5 and 2/3 as he is relieved by Ogando with runners on the corners to face a pinch hitter for Carpenter who is also now done having pitched 6 full.

Ogando promptly gives up a single and Cards take a 3-2 lead, run charged to Wilson.

Top seven Cruz gets one out single and Napoli draws walk. Gentry pinch hits for Murphy but strikes out. German then pinch hits for Ogando and also strikes out. 6.5 done Rangers trail 3-2.

Things aren't setting up well for Texas. I don't understand the pinch hitter for Murphy. Even with a lefty-lefty matchup, he has a better shot of putting something in play than Gentry. I would hope to get more than 1/3 of inning out of Ogando. I also don't understand the German pinch-hitting decision. Oh well, wasted chance in the 7th.

Totally agree on the Gentry decision, especially knowing you were PH for Ogando next.

Gonzalez gets first out of seventh then gives way to Feldman who gets the next two outs.

7 full done 3-2 Cards. Rangers need some runs here.

All I know is I can't stand Joe Buck and McCarver calling the game. They make me sick with their desire to play manager the entire time.

Rangers go three up three down in 8th. Still trailing 3-2. This one was there for the stealing but Rangers are not taking advantage.

Ok. Got the usual post-season "L" from Wilson out of the way (C.J. pitched well in terms of not giving up more than 3 runs, but you don't win many games when you issue 6 walks, hit a batter, throw a wild pitch, and almost half your pitches were balls in just over 5 innings of work). Now let's take Game 2 and get back home.

Rangers lose one that could have been a W against the best starter on either team. Tomorrow is almost a must win. Picked St Louie in game 1 so still hold to my overall Rangers in six prediction.

Gentry wasn't the head-scratcher, but rather pinch-hitting with German. Torrealba isn't a world-beater, by any means, but he hasn't been collecting dust on the bench the entire year, either. He's 4-12 in the postseason, too. I just don't get that decision. We're carrying 3 catchers for precisely this kind of situation and we don't even bring him into the game.

Game 2 is almost a 'must win.' I don't see us winning this series digging out of a 0-2 hole.

First, I know I am not a true zealot like the rest of you, but please bear with me anyways.

I think games 2 and 3 are both "must wins" for the Rangers. They had every opportunity to beat the best the Cards could throw at them last night and missed out. Wilson gets the L, but he pitched well enough that the Rangers bats should have been able to win. I think they have to make a statement tonight and Saturday. If they let the Cards get Big Mo on their side with another loss tonight, I just don't see the series coming back to St. Louis.

^Agree, and I'll go a step further. I think games 2, 3, and 4 are must-wins for the Rangers. That would put all the pressure on the Cardinals for Game 5 in Arlington.
