Work Out Question

I'm just starting to get back into a running routine. Now as in the past my leg muscles get fatigued and it really hinders my ability to run long distances. I know that if I just continue my routine and gradually increase miles, they would get stronger, but I was wondering if getting on the Stairmaster or stationary bike strengthen them quicker?

I guess I'm trying to figure out which would be more productive?

If your question is to substitute those activities for running, the answer would be no. If you want to add these to your already existing routine the answer would be somewhat.

If you want to work up to longer distances add mileage to your runs. Then as your legs fatigue don't be afraid to stop and walk a while. Just like interval training. As soon as you are able start running again.

Stairs and cycling will improve your cardio and help with hills but thats about it. They are both good cross training exercises and probably help reduce the chance for injury.

Start out running for time.

i.e I am going to run for 20 minutes today. Also, walk after the first two minutes or so, even if you aren't tired to help build stamina.
