Yes, we're young, and some of the veterans seem to be injured, but definitely some great performances recently. Esp the 4x400 running such a good time with Cooper not in the lineup. They currently have the 2nd best time in the country but I still think they probably need her to win it at the NCAA meet. If she's 100% I fully expect them to take the event though. Snow has also come on very strong in a short period ot time in the 60m hurdles. She's 20th in the country now, which is fantastic considering where she was not that long ago. It looks like our 400 times finally came down this past weekend also. We had four finish in the top 14 at last year's meet, and now I think we're ranked 9th, 11th and 17th without Cooper having a time. That's a pretty big improvement over where we were just a few weeks ago so hopefully everyone is peaking at the right time. High jumpers are off from last year but still doing pretty well, and I think they will come around for the NCAA meet as well. And we're actually a little deeper this year even though the top heights aren't quite back to where they were. Based on the weekend's performance we could see as many as four score in the event at the Big12 meet. That would be huge if it happens. I think the best news is Peter jumping all the way up to second in the country in the 200. Really great to see her put up such a good time so hope she maintains that form. There are a lot of good teams this year but Oregon looks too good for anyone to challenge IMO. Less than 20 points separate the teams currently ranked 5th-14th in the Indoor poll, but #1 Oregon is over 40 points ahead of their closest competitor.
This year will be exciting! There are so many good womens teams.
Clemson
Oregon
LSU
Central Florida
Texas
Texas AM
And the list goes on!
The relays this year will be a treat!

I don't really know for sure who's injured, but several of our top performers haven't been competing, or in one case haven't competed since an early meet, and so I assume injuries are to blame. Esp since the athletes in question have been injured previously, it seems that's likely the case again. Behm, who finished 2nd in the 5000 at last year's NCAA Indoor meet hasn't competed yet, and Cooper hasn't competed recently either. She should have been a factor in the 400, and of course 4x400 as well. And Masterson hasn't competed in the Pole Vault, but it seems like she's been injured off and on for the past few years. It looks like Cooper was schedule to compete at last week's meet but she wasn't in the relay, and the results show her being DQ'd in the 400. So don't know if that's actually the case or she just didn't start. I think both Cooper and Behm are key so not having them would be a big blow to our chances, and it's even sadder because I think both are seniors. But hopefully both will be healthy and in form for the upcoming conference meet. Otherwise I don't know how they're going to qualify for nationals as there aren't many more opportunities to do that.
All Olympic years are different on indoor meets. One isn't necessarily priming for the indoor championships as the outdoor stretch of qualifications, nationals and Olympics come fairly close together. Not quite the same as the Worlds or a non-Olympic year.
What this means, is any little pain or injury during the indoor season will probably lead to a scratch when it would not during a non-Olympic year.
What you say about Olympic years may be true, I have no idea, but I don't think it's a factor is the case of the athletes mentioned. No doubt they will compete if healthy, and if not hopefully we'll see them during Outdoor season.
Boi we got a special young lady coming to Texas next year!
C.Okolo from Carrollton Newman Smith is special!
She won the 200 and the 400 meters 52.40 to break the State Record in the 4A State Meet. And then that was not enough for her. She anchored the Mile Relay her team was back 20 meters. And she came storming back to put them in 1st place 3:47.10.
Can't wait to see her at Texas next year.

Great news! We are gaining in Track and Field and have young teams and hopefully soon will be competing for Natiional Championships in both sports. Well Done Horns!
Great win for the women, esp when you consider Peter didn't finish the 200 and Nelson was last in the 400, 10 secs off her normal time. And neither ran in the 4x400, as Bev noted in the Texassports release, but no word on whether or not they're injured. In Nelson's case in particular you would think something must have caused her to pull up, or slow down, so perhaps someone with more info will post additional details. I have to say our 4x400 ran a pretty amazing time consdering two of four regulars were missing. Really great job and if not for the Peter and Nelson issues (injuries?) our margin of victory would have probably been 25 + points.
