This program is supposed to be monitored and verified.
and yet we are going to NOT monitor or verify people who say they qualify for gov't subsidy on obamacare.

It is still funny to see the congress all wee wee'd up that THEY might have to go on obamacare with the rest of the country
 
Just another piece of evidence that shows anything the gvt does is bound to be horribly mismanaged and doomed to failure. Of course the libs think this program is great....get more people on the gvt teat.

I actually have some limited knowledge on this subject. I have a friend who is on disability and government housing assistance who has one of these phones. He seems like someone the government was targeting to get a phone.

Well, his phone is a pure piece of crap. He got his phone by mail and it had no battery....so they sent a battery....but it would not hold a charge.....sent him another phone that worked for a while....then died...after warranty over....so he paid $10 for another....blah blah.

The phones are refurbished and very old technology. Nobody than can actually afford a phone would want one of these.

His company his Budget Mobil. Maybe other companies like Assurance Wireless are better. I don't know.

sorry for your friends trouble and hope he can work it out to get a good phone.

No one has EVER said we should not help deserving people and NO One will ever say that.
We should help those who truly need it.

I was only trying to point out that anyone that can afford a phone would not want the piece of crap my friend now owns. I would venture a guess that people who fraudulently get these free phones don't ultimately use them much. Remember, the free minutes are only up to 250 per month...then you still need to pay.

Based on the linked article in the op, it seems that a good government program is being abused by the companies charged with implementation. Obviously, they must make more money based on the number of enrollments.

These companies must by run by greedy republicans....haha...really that was just a joke.
 
The sad thing is that the guberment probably paid iPhone prices for those pieces of crap.

I don't know where your friend is but if he is in a larger city he might contact one of the 2 companies mentioned in the link.
since he qualifies for one legitimately I am sure one of the companies would be glad to send him a newer one.
the companies get paid for every phone they send out so it is in their interests to send as many as they can

which is why they don't actually check
and which is why YOUR friend should get one instead of a reporter getting 3
 
I see the same type of crap all the time. Now the companies that provide lunches at schools no longer have to verify the incomes of people that qualify for free lunch. The person just tells them how much they make and the company has to audit 10% of the people. It really sucks because other services are based on free lunch status and schools do not have the luxury of just taking their word for it.
