Chuck Strong has his team ready to rock and roll.....NOT!! Typical.

I still can't believe Charlie Strong was our head coach. Those are 3 precious years of my life that I will never get back.

Take your thank you note and post it in whatever room or building Fenves is naming after Billy Powers. It will fit well there with his legacy

Great post. I try to stay positive, but those were some crazy days.
Factor in so many people wanted him to succeed for various reasons.
So many excuses, press conferences, and interviews coming away thinking huh?
Blame the previous regime, say you’re getting it fixed. It buys time to move the shells around, but eventually the music stops.

Fortunately, it only took 3 years. Had we beaten Kansas (KANSAS!!!!!) we may have missed on Herman, and whatever coach we picked up next would only be in year 2 of cleaning up the mess.

I wanted him to succeed even as I knew it was not likely .
I thought that Texas was just too big and that he would do well at a smaller place.
Sadly that may not be true .

I wanted him to succeed too. I doubt you will find many Texas fans who don't want the coach, any Texas coach, to succeed. At least at the beginning, everybody is behind the new guy. But it didn't take long for the poor results to alienate some, and after Kansas I doubt you could have found anybody who wanted to give him more time to bake his cake.

A little confused, and a little embarrassed for him. And a little worried for the program, though I was still in his corner. But a coach has to be a masterful communicator, among other things. And Charlie's time in the media spotlight definitively illustrated he is NOT a masterful communicator.

IF he could have put together a solid program and won he might have gotten away with coming off as not a well spoken "communicator"
but I cringed then and cringed after that at every public speech after that.
But I still wanted him to be the right coach.
I hope he and USF can recover from the loss and have a good season.

The communication skills (or lack thereof) was the impetus for McCombs' responses to the media about why it was a poor hire. For all of the issues we had with Mack when he was on thin ice, going from Mack to Charlie was like going from a Rolls Royce to a Pontiac Aztek in terms of being able to talk like a human being. The whole "we just got to get better" ******** coupled with lifting him on players' shoulders every time we eeked out a marginal win against a ****** opponent made him wear out his welcome.

There's only 1 game in my life I wanted Texas to lose, and of course that was the Kansas game as I knew that's what it would take.

We're talking about a coach here that couldn't even get a coin toss right. Blows my mind eve USF would hire him. I would bet $ any HS coach on Texas could out coach him.

Charlie has now lost his last 7 games as head coach at USF. Anyone watching last night's game notice that same vacant stare we've all seen before from him? I wasn't expecting USF to beat Whisky but I was at least hoping for a somewhat competitive game. Charlie is starting to look just as in-over-his-head at USF as he was coaching at Texas.

Not to defend but didn’t he kick off half the team for breaking rules?

Several players were kicked off the USF team and I think a couple coaches fired, but that's squarely on his shoulders. My take when he did it was that he was pulling the core values thing to distract from actual performance. How is it the prior coach had them in line winning 11 games with a Heisman candidate, then Charlie takes over and the wheels fall off. Anyone can kick players off the team, but it takes a man with TRUE core values to lead those to be better people because its harder. There might be a couple that can't be changed, but I think he kicked about 15-20% of the team off at once. That dude has no clue what he's doing and his sideline facial expressions say it all.

I thought the same thing, Vol. It's looking more and more to me like Charlie wants to lower expectations by steering the program towards a never ending rebuild while using his core values as a shield.
